We have 15 year old storm windows on our 1940 home and are thinking of replacing the inside windows with vinyl replacement windows. My husband would like to leave the triple track storm windows on the house. This means we would not need the screen that is part of the replacement window. Can we find a window without the screen and is it a good idea to leave the storm windows up?

Some replacement windows will not fit behind your storm window due to the shape of the main frame. It’s a bad idea anyway for one you will no longer be able to pass the glass panels of the storm window through the new window for repair or cleaning and I’m also worried about how the heat build up between the two windows may affect the vinyl.

I agree with Bill. The heat build up may damage your new windows.
When I started installing windows for NuSash in the mid 70's, this was a common practice in leaving the storm windows on and we would cut a notch in the storm window tracks to be able to get the storm panels out sideways.
The difference is that those windows were mostly aluminum and were not affected by heat. With the current energy efficiency available in windows today, storm windows really aren't needed anymore.
Another consideration is that the window warranty may be void if the storm windows are not removed.
