Marvin or Avalon Windows?

I think I have narrowed my search for windows down to 2 manufacturers Marvin and Avalon. I know Marvin makes a good window but how does the Avalon window compare?

Jeremy,

Both are good companies. Have you gotten specific quotes on purchase and installation for each? If you have, let us know and we could comment.

Currently my plan is to use the same installer regardless of window choice. The qoutes below are for the windows and door only (no labor). The qoute is for 3 36"x72" casement windows with 3 36x24 awning windows above.

The qoute for Avalon is $3388.

The qoute for Marvin is $3842.

Both windows have distintic advantages over the other. For example I like the door choice better with Avalon but I like the fact that I can get Argon filled windows with Marvin.

For background the windows are being used to convert a screened porch into a sunroom. The plan is to use the new room all year round, but because it was a porch there are no heating or cooling vents. The only heat or A/C will come from a window and door that lead out to the porch. I am located in Atlanta, GA so we do not have the bitter winters of the North. But it does get very hot here in the summer with lots of humidity and it gets cold enough in the winter.

Thanks for the help.

Thought I would reply to my own message. I have talked to Avalon and reworked the layout. The new price is $3100, moved awning windows to the bottom which saves money on tempered glass. As long as the locking mechanism is not as bad as Caradaco windows (Jeld Wen) I think I am going with the Avalons. Let me say my qoute for the Caradco is $400 less, but I am not impressed with their windows at all. They do not appear to be all that well thought out or well built. Nor did they do all that well in Consumer Reports Testing.

I'm looking to hear from people that have installed Avalon Wood Windows (Double Hung). I am considering ordering replacement windows for my home in Ca. but want some feedback from others. Thanks, Penny

Hi Jeremy,
Did you end up getting the Avalon Windows? If so please tell me if you are pleased with them. Let me know any draw backs. Do you have grids in them? Penny
