It seems that if I ever get any stress cracks it either happens during shipping or shortly afterwards. This is not a Silverline thing but just something I have noticed with other companies as well.I may be wrong but shipping can be hard on things.Silverline doesn't lock there sash's during shipping eitherwhich can lead to other problems as well.

You saw the air infiltrating? These windows are more prone to air filtration then others if not shimmed well because of the way they are weatherstripped.I see this alot with this window because of poor install.I have never had a service call do to warping or bowing, nor have I noticed it.Doesn't mean it doesn't happen though.

...So you are pretty much answering your own question as to why people think that the window is inferior. If I was a consumer, I'd want a window that was as dummy-proof as possible, not one that needed to be installed by a surgeon just to keep it from leaking air.

Silverline has decent air infiltration #'s which I would assume were based on a propperly shimmed window.I was just noting a problem that I see on alot of homeowner installs.Air infiltration has never been an issue for me.I usually shim all of my windows,so I wouldn't say you need to be a surgeon, just some common sense. Alot of consumers aren't willing to pay for the most dummy proof window out their.

You don't need to "feel" air blowing in for there to be infiltration/exfiltration.... I understand what you are saying about some consumers wanting cheaper products, but you can get a decent product for not much more than a Silverline/Am craft. Secondly, the people who just want the absolute cheapest window they can buy are always going to find somebody cheaper anyway. It's just not worth it to install junk to make a slim profit today, and then pay for it on the backend with the service issues.... This thread is getting a little drawn out, so that'll be my last $.02 :)

Well, all windows leak even when installed properly. The air infiltration #'s are easily obtainable if you choose to look them up.I offer customers more then 1 brand of window to choose from,it's their choice.Their are alot of windows that I would rate below the Silverline 9500 series and of course alot above. These windows have been reliable for me and what would be considered a slim profit?Service issues and air infiltration have not been a problem for me.

I did see an American Craftsman window today that had an upper sash bowing. It was on 1 of about 12 windows. The others could have been bowing, but not to my naked eye.
