Need help reattaching window trim

#1 Post by hoopajoob »

I have a piece of trim that was removed from a window a long time ago that I'm trying to reattach. I'm not sure if it's supposed to snap in, slide on, be attached with some adhesive, or what. Or maybe it's not something that can even be reattached. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Looks like a mull strip. Clean the piece, clean the channels that it snaps into. Re-apply some adhesive in the channels (more toward the middle so that it oozes less if any), and snap back in.
You may need a rubber mallet or block of wood to fully seat it in place... In fact, I'd recommend a dry-fit first just in case the windows have separated over time and it won't fit without additional measures.

+ 1. I have a feeling that the mull strip might have been problemsome at the time of install. It looks like it from the appearance of everything. I have a feeling that you may have trouble getting it to hold itself on so make sure you use some good adhesive as well. Have some tape ready in case you need it to help hold it on until the glue sets. Like Brandon said above, don't get too close to the edge of the mull strip with glue or it will squish out. Use some hefty dabs of glue in the middle where the windows come together. Good luck!

Guide to reattach window trim

Hi,
From the pictures I guess the damage seems minor. The damage is with the mull strip. I think using paintable adhesive sealant can help you fix it. After having cut the trim according to the specifications needed ,miter the decorative mould, then caulk. Paint it. Best of luck. :)
