Thermally Broken Aluminum Windows in San Antonio, Good Idea?

#1 Post by Spurs »

I am considering replacing 17 single pane aluminum windows with Don Young thermally broken aluminum windows here in San Antonio. If you weren't aware of it, it gets VERY hot here and we don't have much of a winter. :D

The windows have a U factor of about .45, SHGC = .29, visible light around .56. I realize that the U factor is a little higher than some vinyl windows I have looked at, but in my area is that such a big deal? The aluminum windows seem very strong. I think the DP was around 35 but they seem like they would hold up well in the Texas heat.

Any experiences with Don Young windows? What about thermally broken windows in general? All comments or ideas welcomed and appreciated.

Don Young makes an excellent thermally broken aluminum replacement window. The U-Value is not all that important here in south Texas, and the DP rating is Heavy Commercial 30, which is far different than Residential 30. I have been putting in quite a few of these windows lately and I like them.

Good luck.
