I am considering replacing 17 single pane aluminum windows with Don Young thermally broken aluminum windows here in San Antonio. If you weren't aware of it, it gets VERY hot here and we don't have much of a winter.
The windows have a U factor of about .45, SHGC = .29, visible light around .56. I realize that the U factor is a little higher than some vinyl windows I have looked at, but in my area is that such a big deal? The aluminum windows seem very strong. I think the DP was around 35 but they seem like they would hold up well in the Texas heat.
Any experiences with Don Young windows? What about thermally broken windows in general? All comments or ideas welcomed and appreciated.
