NY Replacement Windows What is good?

#1 Post by xxnonamexx »

I have been going crazy looking for decent replacement windows. I have single pane original since house was built in 1964. I am looking for a boudle hung, double pane, U factor at least .30. I checked one place IDEAL windows were $279 and Simonton 166. I can't seem to find a great window for a reasonable price. Please help. Thanks

Are you looking to simply purchase the windows or have them installed?

Softlite, HiMark, Sunrise, and Okna are the brands generally held in the highest regard.

Do you have a set budget? I cannot imagine a worthwhile product at that price point in an installed capacity.

Can you provide some more details about the home, option requirements, size of the units, age of the home, etc?

Home was built in 1964 windows are wood single pane. Want Vinyl, no grids. 16 windows are 3x4 2 are 2x4 18 total windows. They offer triple pane $359 same deal.

Triple pane may or may not be beneficial in your circumstance. It depends on may factors; How much sun do you get? How far north are you? On which side of your home are the biggest windows? Can you take advantage of solar heat gain in the winter? Do you use shades for the south facing windows in the summer, etc.

Don;t be sold on triple pane simply because the perception is that it's better than double pane. Sometimes a good DP window can outperform a TP..

I would also look at Sunrise, Himark/Okna, and Softlite.

xxnonamexx, if buddy services your location he's the man to talk to without question. Just click his Get Quote button to contact him.
Just be advised, that as every other poster has mentioned, the price that you are looking at will not get you a high quality product or install. You'll likely double that, maybe more depending on option content, etc.

I agree with HomeSealed. If you want a quality window with professional installation, get with Buddy. He knows the climate, he carries some of the best windows in the industry, and his installation details ensure a weathertight fit.

Look up 3 posts above yours...

There is a "Get a Quote" button that you can click on to get Bruce's, aka buddy, information. That would be my overwhelming recommendation for you.

Thanks for all of the advice I am still weighing options I just got a price EcoShield 4000 windows (18) for 3400 inclu tax. Installers usually charge 100-150/window so it appears the job will cost 6200 which is a great deal. Tristate in LI wanted 7560
