Vinyl verses wood.

#1 Post by bigshopper »

Everyone is trying to sell vinyl. I assume its a huge savings to the customer and a huge markup item to the manufacturers. (It must be as there are so many windows companies now).
Point is...cost aside...is wood all that much better?? I know it looks better..but is is any more energy efficient and will it last longer. I know wood can warp and will have higher maintainence.
Has technology produced a better, lower cost product or is a just a cheap way to sell a bunch more windows.

If I didn't love the look of stained wood, I would switch to a high end vinyl in a minute. Just so I didn't need to worry about rot and maintenance. Just my opinion.

You might want to take a look at Renewal by Andersen, this window is made of a composite they call Fibrex and can be ordered with wood interior. It's a good looking window. I found then to be the best window for my situation.
