52 new windows

#1 Post by Stiken »

Hi all,
We are in Colorado.
We are building a new home with geothermal, radiant floor heating and blown in insulation. We are looking for the best all around window. With low leakage, good E value and is aesthetically pleasing. We found that the consumer reports recommends Simington Reflections. We have also looked at Marvin, Millguard, and Weatherguard. We are very confused. Does anyone have any advice?

Yes.

Don't use the Simonton in this case.

Sounds like you are building a very efficient structure. What type of wall construction type and tell me more about the home. What will the orientation be like on the home? Will you be trying to take advantage of passive solar?

In terms of operator type, a super tight operator (casement, tilt and turn, etc.) is going to be preferred as we want the most airtight window we can get in there.

What will the architecture of the home look like?

I think Simonton could work for you if you go with there casements and the right glass package.
Perhaps something in fiberglass would suit your needs better like Inline?
You have a lot of windows to replace so this will add up to huge price swings if you compare a window such as Marvin to Simonton. Do you have a budget in mind? Material in mind?

Where in CO.? What altitude?
My first thought is triple pane fiberglass, like InLine.

Should have clarified my remarks Todd.

In a casement series, the Simonton will be fine.

Hi thanks for the fast input

We are building near Boulder so elevation is not an issue. Hugh bank of windows will face west with a full house wrap around porch that will shade all lower windows.

We have chosen geo over solar and our window budget is between 25K and 65K (trying to hit 45 K

Do you have a style? Casement, double hung, slider , picture window.
Sizes, specs?
Options: finishes , colors, hardware, glazing
Lead time, when do you need them?
