Okna, Soft-Lite, Marvin, Pella recommendations ?

#1 Post by noob2win »

Hi,

Looking to replace 10 double hung windows ( approx 31x 61 ) in the Atlanta area. I have read up on Soft-Lite Elements, Okna Eviro-Star for vinyl based replacements and also looked at Marvin Infinity and Pella for fiberglass.

The Marvins were quoted at 1200 for install per window.
The Soft-Lite were quoted at 700 for install per window
The Okna were quoted at 710 for install per window
Pella waiting on the quote.

Wonder how the vinyls stack up against the fiberglass after about 15-17 years of GA temperatures ?

Thank you,

Replacement Noob.

Unless you were about $5000 more partial to the fiberglass, the other two choices you have in vinyl are world beaters and will lap the Marvin when it comes to efficiency and performance.

Between those two, its a toss up and more about what the companies were like and if you preferred the less replacement window aesthetic that the Envirostar is going for.

None of those will have any issue lasting probably double that timeframe. That said, as WoW alluded to, the Okna and Softlite options will offer significantly better energy savings... The primary reason to go with a fiberglass (or composite) window IMO is if you need a custom painted or stained interior.

I install all the mentioned units.
I agree with Homesealed that the best for you is the Okna.

I saw the imperial Ls window by soft lite and it seemed very heavy duty if thats a good way to describe it. Any opinions on upgrading to triple pane glass? I am in the early stages of my research.
I am located in central nj if that helps with the question.

Triple pane is a wise investment in your climate. Won't pay for itself in a couple years, but it will over the service life of the product and that is the way that the industry is heading.

Another recommendation: search masterext on the forum here. He covers central jersey and offers an excellent product. Good guy.
