caulk recommendations
caulk recommendations
Hi..I live in the louisville, ky area and we experience quite a wide range of temperatures..would a 100% silicone caulk be the best way to go for replacement vinyl window installation? GE silicone is widely available in the big box stores..any better brands? thanks

Re: caulk recommendations
Silicon is nice but it has a tendency to attract dust and is more difficult to tool.
You will find a large majority of installers use OSI Quad.
Don't use it on the interior or you will be high for weeks.

OSI Quad on the outside, latex on the inside.
Re: caulk recommendations
Typically use OSI, I do change over to silicone in below freezing temps though.I also like to use Vulkem on the aluminum capping on stucco houses.I only use it where the capping butts up to the stucco and I match the Vulkem to the stucco color.Matching the Vulkem to the stucco color can be difficult if stucco has been painted because of limited colors of Vulkem.
Re: caulk recommendations
since install won't take place till nov. with possible near freezing temps, using the proper caulk is a concern of mine..also in the long term, would 100% silicone perform better than the OSI caulking as far as flexibility in a wide range of temperatures?
Re: caulk recommendations
Follow manufacture's recommendations for temperatures.Even different brands of silicone can vary according to manufacter. That being said I would take OSI over silicone as my preferance.

I know I'm late to the party
This stuff is excellent. It has no odor, works well with a finger and contains very low VOC's
