How the heck?

#1 Post by whowe82 »

I have a basement window that the dog decided he wanted to paw at and shatter it. I was able to remove the screen and remove all the broken glass, but how the heck do I get frame out to get a new window in? I have pushed the sliders in and tried to move it each way... I have a strange feeling these windows were put in assembled way back when... help!!!! Thank you!

If you are trying to replace that entire unit, get your sawzall out and start chopping (once you have the new unit and it is measured up and ready to go).

That unit is cast in place and bonded to the block. It must be cut out of the block.

Not looking to do the whole unit, just the pane of glass.... it goes on that inner frame that I can't seem to get out of there...

Normally you would slide th window open then lift it up as high as it can go then pull the bottom in towards the insid, once it clears the track pull it down out of the top track.
Sometimes there is an anti lift out feature that you have to figure out.

This part here threw me off a bit. As Window Nerd mentioned, there you should be able to slide it to one side and by apply directional pressure, compress the springs and lift the unit out. Look for a anti-theft lift block or similar.
