Would A Bow Window Seem Odd If...

#1 Post by NorthernMaryland »

Would A Bow Window Seem Odd To You If it consisted of 5 lite panels and instead of the far end panels opening (lets call them panels #1 and #5) you have the #2 and #4 lites being the ones that open? Would it look funny somehow either from the inside or outside? Is it a design or structural no-no for some reaon or other?

Typically the end units open, but there's no real reason why you can't change that up. If that's what you want, the best way to achieve a uniform appearance is to use casements and fixed casements. That will make all the windows look consistent, except some will have hardware on them and some won't.

Having the #2 & #4 panel functional is fine. I have had some customers request it because when the window treatments are retracted they would block the #1 & #5 panels obstructing air flow and blowing in the breeze.

You can make them all open if you want for that matter. Purely a matter of choice and what the jobsite conditions dictate.

The normal reason to make 2 & 4 vents as mentioned above is the stack of drapes or verticals.
It looks fine whether 1&5 or 2 & 4.
