These windows are overpriced junk. We are located in mid-west Indiana.70 mile north of Indy where the wind blows. You can feel the wind and cold air coming thru the windows between the uppe and lower sash, and also around the edges in the window track. The installer had tried to fix the situation, but the Simonton rep says that these windows are performing the way they are supposed to and will do nothing about it. I put 17 windows in my house and reduced the heating efficiency of my house. Tried to make an improvement to the house and was sold this garbage and now I am stuck. I wouldn’t recommend this brand of window for a dog house!!!!!!!!! Waste of money

The guys at Vanderkolk construction were great. No complaints about them , with the exception that they sell this brand of window. Not sure if it’s a profit margin thing or what?, but my windows are junk in my opinion

I had the Prism windows installed in 2003. Very dissatisfied with these windows. Where the sun shines on them is terrible - it is either bubbles or whatever was put on the inside of the panes. I am ashamed for visitors to see my windows because they look nasty. Not all of my Prism windows are like this. If anyone asks me who manufactured them I will surely tell them and DO NOT buy these windows. The company that I bought the windows from is out of business. As far as the warranty I have no idea about it - it is not on my paperwork. I think Simonton should replace my (4) windows free and stand behind your products.

These windows do not stand up to the Texas heat. Granted they face due East and last year we had record heat in central Texas, but my aluminum windows still seal; the vinal windows sag, insulation pealing off, and do not stay open, have fogged up, been replaced and are fogged again. Mfg wants to give me glass so I can replace myself this time. If you live in Texas where warmer temperatures are normal you better try Fiberglass it has to be better than vinal.

The following represent my opinion about the Simonton Prism Platinum double hung; (special offer, triple pane for double pane price), that I just had installed. From Simonton site: “This Limited Warranty for Glass does not include…: Scratches or other imperfections not readily observable beyond four feet away”. 18 windows; during installation noticed what appeared to me, to be, foreign objects such as threads/plastic bits, dust/dirt, water spots and streaks, most of which were present on the center pane of almost all the windows. All flaws were very noticeable on windows with direct sunlight, most from over 4 feet. Luckily, my installer fought for me and all windows were replaced. Unfortunately, all the replacements were also flawed in the same way, plus more scratches, one over 8 inches long! It appears to me, that Simonton does not clean the center (sealed) pane of glass, what so ever! There were some flaws on the inside of the two outer panes, but not as many as on the center (third) pane. Why weren’t windows checked before being shippped? Also noticed a little condensation on all windows, outside edge just over frame, it appears that the weather-stripping is not laid fully around radius of upper edge of lower window frame (that guide along the side)? Misc.: Screens do not lock in any way and can be removed by anyone from the outside. Simonton rep can’t be called directly. Pros: the oak color vinyl on the inside matches my woodwork nicely, and the windows do seem to be more energy efficient. Bottom line, if I would have known what I do now, I would not have gone Simonton, after all what does it take to clean glass before assembly? Waiting to hear from Rep.

Let me tell you about my experience with Simonton brand windows installed in Central WI. I had ordered 8 windows to be installed by a local city approved/licensed contractor in April of this year (2010). They install all the windows within two days of arrival. Some are very large, 100 inches by 80 inches. Simonton Prism Platinum (reviews say the best they make) Triple Pane with super spacer (the foam insualtion panel for the glass instead of the metal spacer). Within one month, the windows give me trouble. When the sun hits the large window (casement, picture, casement) the one side won't even open unless you forcibly move it. The frame expands and twists so much in 70 degree weather that the locking levers refuse to let the window open, all out of alignment. 70 degrees and the window flexes on it's own over 1/2 inch from original position. At 90 degrees, forget it, that window isn't moving even a bit. What window flexes that much? What kind of vinyl are they using? You can actually hear it flex when the temp changes. Squeak, pop, etc. The other side of this same window, the seal blew out of the window within a few weeks. The large plastic seal that holds the glass panel in, it popped out with temp changes. Now it just sits there bowed. Every single window has horrible insulated panel assembly. Fingerprints inside the units. Glue missing on seamlines which will equal panel failure in two years. Dust, debris inside the units. Frames plastic welded out of square, large gaps in the frames when using the double hungs. Horrible assembly and zero quality control stadards obviously. Now today, I go upstairs into a spare room and see the one window has a crack on the inside panel. No impact, I have no kids and rarely use that room so it wasn't people. It cracked from the window flexing obvioulsy. Total garbage windows. Can't handle a temp change from 25 to 48 in one day. Now I'm fighting with the contractor to fix it all but getting blown off for months. Simonton won't take calls from customers, they only will talk to contractors. They are no help, they don't care. My only course of action will be to sue the contractor and Simmonton to get these issues fixed by a REAL window maker and installer.

Really bad installation, Home Depot sent some guys who seemed like very nice, but who cares when the work is bad ? They were clean and everything, but didnt put any insulation around the windows. I saw that and mentioned it to the guy and he goes, "its not necessary". I paid about $3000 more than a good local installer, i was clearly ripped off. I could have done a better install. They guys were in a real hurry, there was like a 1-2mm gap all around most windows, caulking was bad, holes and draft all over the place. I told them, sent another guy who was lazy to insulate and had just caulked more and left. Dont use Home Depot, just get a local contractor, get the Simonton/Harvey windows from local/nearest store and have them installed. Nobody really cares if you go with this kind of large corporation.

We have had our Simenton Windows for over 10 years and I would plead with anyone thinking of buying ANY Simenton product to beware. We have had Simenton Reps here 3 times and they find nothing faulty, but when the wind blows you can hold a candle to the window and watch it flicker. We have excellent insulation and we go through approx. 275 gal of propane EVER month in the winter. I would caution anyone to STAY AWAY FROM SIMENTON!!!!

We have had them for a year now and are VERY pleased. There is a huge decrease in air leakage from outside when the windows are closed. Where ever possible, we put in casements and some are quite large. The cranking mechanism works very well and we love the increased airflow. Aesthetically, we are very pleased with look of the imitation wood grain on the interior. Our only (minor) "disappointment" is that we could only get white for the exterior finish; since there is no other white on the exterior of our home, we would have preferred a darker finish.

James Gay (company owner) and one assistant replaced 16 windows in less than two days, working on only a couple windows at a time. I have seen companies that remove all windows before installing any of the replacements; I much prefer James Gay's approach. The work proceeded in a very orderly, neat & clean manner. The exterior sealing was EXCELLENT and the finished product looks great, both outside and inside. The window interiors have stained woodwork and NO damage was done to any of it. I think this is the best contractor job I have ever had done.

We recently replaced most of the single-pane aluminum windows on our SoCal stucco home with the Simonton 6500's. They look great. More than that, they cut down the noise from the outside almost completely and they retain the heat. One room has 2 outside walls with large windows. I used to have to keep that room closed off for loss of heat. I was pleasantly surprised this winter to find that room is now as warm as the rst of the house.

I love the look of the window...not that bright white that most replacement dpanes are painted. The windows have changed the look of my 1959 quaint home, for the better. I would like to thank this website for the helpful info they provided and opinions on the different companies that I considered. I considered Kensington, Pella, Windowmart and ended up going with Simonton.

I really appreciated the fact that HD has their own hired HD employees that do the install. They hired one of the best local crew of installers and made them HD Employees. HD changed they way they do replacement, in that they don't just get a 3rd party to do the install, but rather they have actual HD installers. The install went smooth, they got her at 9 and had all the windows removed, cleaned and had the new ones installed around 5pm. I was impressed with the install and the fit of the windows.

I shopped around...got a quote by Pella for a single pane for 14 windows for $8600. My windows measurements for the 14 windows range from 36x60x96 on some and 36x56x92 with my largest window being 72x60x132 and my smallest being 35x35x70. I got a quote for Kensington Kingston windows and after some www research found that it is Kensington's budget window...still a great window. However, for $9k I decided to keep looking. This local company also had a window from Windowmart in Arkansas. I was not too impressed with that company and their website for $7200. I then got a quote from HD on their Simonton windows for $9600. I ended up going with them as I could not pass up on Simonton's top model for HD and could rely on HD to still be around in 25 years as these windows have a lifetime transferable warranty. I got a gift card for $100 back, a 1.9% loan from the city and a $133 rebate from my gas company for getting the windows. I bit the bullet and decided to go for it...as they were all basically quoting me the same price. I live in Austin, Texas and it gets hot down here for Summer and we have the sun out probably 225 days if not more out and shining.
