Purchased over 16 Simonton 5500 Windows, Plus a 6 foot bay window with dble hungs on the side..... Outstanding window in every aspect...... Reduced my heating bill and also blocked out the outside street noises....... Great Windows.... Highly Recommend...
Installed by Myself of NY
Because my Contractor ran out on us, I was forced to finish the job, and installed all the windows myself..... Easy to install, secure and square up.... just a little caulk and non-expanding foam insure a great seal....

Extremely cheap window with virtually no energy efficiency whatsoever. They claim energy star, but this is just for the glass which may be energy star, but the frame and plastic that holds the glass is extremely cheap and inefficient and has huge air leaks throughout the window tracks----AVOID. Note If you live in a climate that doesn't require any energy efficiency and your windows do not need to be air tight, these windows might be okay, however, these windows are priced in the same category as high quality windows. These windows are really only good for quick, cheap replacement jobs where you will not be living in the house and do not need the energy efficiency of a quality replacement window. Note too that company is owned by Fortune Brands which is an off-shore holding company that does not pay taxes in America and thus has no obligation to resolve issue. Unless you like overpaying for cheap products there are plenty of quality alternatives.

I did extensive research prior to choosing a brand and picked Simonton for quality and price and have not been disappointed. The model I chose was the 5500 replacement windows. They replaced my old wood windows installed in 1954. What a difference they have made from the old single pain windows. They insulate very well (I took a temperature difference of the old window compared to the new one: Outside temp 100 / inside temp set at 80 / old window pane reading 94/ new window pane reading 84, just 4 degrees higher than ambient air temp), reduce noise pollution dramatically, they open easily, and they make the home look great both inside and out. As one formerly employed in the home construction industry I was able to install them myself saving a significant amount. They installed easily; although I would not recommend a homeowner without good knowledge of home construction and experience to try this on their own. Very glad I chose Simonton windows for my home.
Installed by self (Restoration Management Solutions) of TX
since i installed them myself the only extra costs were for non-expanding foam, interior wood trim extenders (new widows were not as deep as the old wood frame windows), bitchman tape used around window frame opening to seal out water.

I was very dismayed to see the large over cuts on the top of the lower sash where it meets up with the upper sash. The cut extends 1/4 inch beyond the edge of the upper sash and the material visible thru the over cut gives the appearance of shoddy workmanship. The same for the cuts to fit the latches - there an almost 1/4 inch over cut on each side of the latch - or the latch is pushed to one side and there is a large gap to one side of the latch. When I contacted Simonton their Service Solutions Department Rep said they would send me 4 new lower sashes. They sent me 8 new sashes (both upper and lower) and every one of the lower sashes had the same over cuts and looked shoddy. Finally I located a Simonton display at a builder's supply company and went there and yes, even the display model had these over cuts on both the edges and either side of both latches. I still don't know why Simonton sent me replacement sashes when the replacements have the same areas of poor quality workmanship I complained about. THAT suggests their Reps don't know the products. Lesson: NEVER buy from a catalog - go find and see a display model first. If its unclear what I'm talking about E-Mail me and I'll e-mail you pictures of how bad these look.

I ordered Simonton Reflections 5500 Windows, supposedly their premium window (see review) - the installers put in Simonton 5050, the economy model. When confronted with the discrepency between what they installed and what was inthe contract they did finally get me my proper windows. Then there were problems with the new windows and neither the contractor nor the Simonton Rep seemed to be the least bit familiar with the product, as evidenced by them sending me replacement sashes with the same problems that i had complained about.

I have a large room with only two standard sized windows that face north. Initially I had the Simonton low-e windows installed but they made the room look excessively dark and gloomy (very green). The label said that the light transmittance was .51 which did appear to explain it. After discussing the situation with the installer he agreed to replace the sashes with clear glass in them at cost. I sincerely appreciated that but even this glass has a distinct green tint to it. I assumed the windows were made with a standard grade of window glass but now I believe either they are using a very low grade of glass or the "standard" today is much lower than it had been in the past. I am seriously considering replacing these windows...even if they are new. I thought they were at a good price.

WE bought new Simonton replacement windows for our house. The open channel slides for the double hungs allow a great deal of cold air in the house. In fact enough to blow a candle out. According to Simonton we live in extreme conditions, some days we have wind. They tell me there is no problem with the installation, or the window. They offered to send me a kit of foam blocks for the open channels. My thought is they are new windows flawed in design and should not need a repair kit. Beware if your house is subject to outside air movement.

I can't find fault with the installation. The windows are plumb and operate well.
They were priced too good to refuse. You get what you pay for.

I am satisfied with my choice
Installed by Rennisance of MN
I would not recommend this company due to their sales tactics. I am a very intelligent person and had done my homework on windows so knew exactly what I wanted and got commitments from the sales rep on at least three occassions yet when it came to the installation, the wrong window was brought, the wrong installers showed up and we had to renegotiate. The only saving grace to this experience was that the sub they used turned out to be great to work with and I would hire him directly for future projects but would never work with Rennisance no mater what type of price they gave me.
They used bait and switch.

Installer was willing to accomodate me. For example, they normally don't insulate and if they do, use fiberglass. I requested low expanding foam and they did it.
Quoted and paid about 11K for 19 windows and a custom sliding glass door.
