Question about Alside windows...

Posted At: 2004-08-13 16:21:08

We are thinking of replacing about 15 windows with either Alisde's UltraMAxx or Sheffield lines. We are getting both casement and slider window replacements. Any comments or advice would be welcome regarding quality.

Windows are all the same. It's a big marketing ploy. Companies come up w/ new terms and definitions to get the consumer into believing these fabicated, important-than-life factors. They love to stir up the emotions of the consumer. It's easy to sell them something, when it's emotion driven; when they need to make a decision now before it's too late. The testing performed on these windows are well out of the normal/everyday environmental conditions. Go w/the gut.

Although I avoid commenting on individual window companies, I cannot help but comment on the comment "Windows are all the same"...I am hoping that that was a tongue-in-cheek attempt at humor.
Windows are definitely NOT all the same. ANYONE with any knowledge of the window industry is well aware of that fact!

Bob, while I appreciate many of your points about windows a recent DWM trade magazine stated that only 1 in 5 window manufacturers in North America participate in any certification program. The least customers should learn to do is to check and see if their windows are NFRC labeled. On this board individuals argue continuously about what the numbers should be but at least there are numbers to argue about. Apparently a lot of window manufacturers don't have numbers for the consumer to see or use some private testing lab labels.

Bob,

I avoid commenting on individual companies...because of what I "do", I would be subject to conflict of interest if I made comparisons between different companies. I have stated that many times here when asked.

I "see" windows from many different manufacturers, as well as different spacers and different "types" of glass.
I have seen huge differences in quality between different manufacturers, and except for my one "meeting" with a Chinese company, I believe that the manufacturers I have dealt with really are trying to do their best to give the customer the best product that they are able to produce within (and therein lies the key) the abilities and cost allowances of their company.
That said, there are very large differences in what a company is capable of producing.
There are expensive windows that really aren't all that good and are definitely not worth the cost. And less expensive windows that are not bad at all.
There are expensive windows that really are worth the cost. And cheap windows that are also "worth" the cost.

My appologies for the above comment. It is that I come to this site to learn and share and the post by Bob simply indicated he knows nothing of windows and after this past past week I let off some steam with no positive effects from the contribution. I did not mean to abuse the privledge that Tim has afforded us.
