The window is the Quantum2, which is made by Kensington. It is a nice window, but the claims are not properly presented on the glass nor the whole window U-value. The U-value of the total window is a .20, which puts the R-factor at R-5 if my math is correct.

Is a claimed R-12 possible ?

Long Fence and windows in the DC area is promoting their best quality of windows as having an R-12 value.

1. This seems very high. It might apply to a center of glass, brand new window.

2. Any guesses about who their manufacturer is ?

Your math is correct. Also keep in mind that many windows have numerous glass options. Just because they have a window available with great numbers, doesn't necessarily mean that's the window they are quoting or would be ordering for you. Each and every window delivered must have it's own NFRC label to verify what you are getting. Good Luck.

Very true FenEx.
Just a follow-up on this window. I would put it in the class of an Alside Sheffield, but it is not in the same league with the fit & finish of the Schuco window. Still a nice window though.
I was approached by Kensington to become an exclusive dealer last year but decided against it after comparing the Quantums features and looks up against some of my mid-range windows. The price they wanted from me as a dealer to buy them was just way too high for what the window offered me.

Thanks for the great info, all !

I have a related question which Kensington's site does not really answer:

A major part of our planned fenestration will be patio doors, not windows per se. It is not clear whether the same technology is offered in patio doors.

On the other hand, a large window or patio door might be more efficient overall than a smaller window, in other words the average R or U might be closer to the center of glass value.

Or not ? (I note that Southwall products claim Rs up to 12.5 for their quad superglass, for example).

Gilkey windows is the only North American manufacturer of replacement windows that has quad superglass as an option.
Even in their patio doors, the U-value is only .21, which gived it a R-5 for the total door.

Just for the record.

According to the NFRC, the Milgard Quiet-Line (dual window) double hungs have a rating U-0.21.

Thanks for the clairification- I should not answer questions before 10am on Saturdays. Their SC casements have an SHGC of .11(U value of .19)
Sorry for the discrepancy. We have to work together to keep ourselves straight, it was an honest mistake I asure you.
