Yes, but they fill them with gold.

{Well, to be truthfull, I'm not absolutely 100% sure of that, but it's the only reasonable answer I can think of to explain the price they charge.}

Nyer -

Yes, the Sears window is a Simonton on a par level with a Home Depot Renovation 6500 (also Simonton - just a HD name instead of a Sears name on it). Are they a bad window? Absolutely not! Are they a window of the highest caliber? No. They are a good mid-range replacement window. Way ahead of the real cheapies but still some distance behind the high-level units that some other companies have available.

Are they a good value from Sears or Home Depot? No. Either establishment is way overpriced for what you get. Earlier this year I worked for Sears Home Improvement and sold the window. They average about $1,000/window overall and HD isn't too far behind. If you want Simonton, find a direct dealer and the cost will drop SUBSTANTIALLY. If you want more bang for the buck (higher value per dollar spent), look at a different brand. Schuco as an example typically runs far less than the Simonton sold through Sears or HD and is a MUCH better window. Example: Since I no longer work for Sears the windows I'm replacing in my home would run about $19,000 if I were to purchase them through Sears (that's applying all available discounts). Instead I'm purchasing a much better window for less than $9,000.

Hope this helps and yes, I realize it's overly long :)

Good Luck

Art hit it on the head. I'll only add this little bit. Sears at least gives you the ability to better your window. Simonton offers threee models of windows to choose from. The Relfections, (Lower End) Same as Sears and HD, The Impressions, Usually sold by the independent dealers and last the Prism series, their top of the line. Now at each model they can offer three levels of excitement to choose from. A Good, Better, Best deal. This is where Sears can really up the charge. I'm not positive if HD offers that. I'm sure the pesky insect Grasshopper will let us know. SO really what they do is take the Reflections window and install special hardware with their Logo's on them. Really anyone that buy's in a huge quantity can get that. You even get your own custom sticker across the window. Sears gets a better glass in their window. HD just gets the standard window. I would disagree with Art on one thing with NO disrespect to him at all. The window is a lower end window used by both of them. The Impressions model would be the middle. Simonton does make a nice product though. Sometimes you can get a good deal with HD in Texas only. The rest of the Nation has issues. Just digging you know who!!

Guy -

Yeah, sure, go ahead and disrespect me with comments like that! J/K :)

Yes, Sears did have three different grades of window to choose from - but (always a but, isn't there?), earlier this year the decision was made to sell just one window. This decision was taken in order to tie in with the name change to WeatherBeater to capitalize on that name. As you may or may not know, WeatherBeater is a Sears trademarked name from the original line of WeatherBeater paint and Sears apparently feels that it'll help sell windows, siding and perhaps doors to a greater number of homeowners.

Now for the disclaimer - this is what happened in the Midwest region. If it's different for the rest of the country I'm unaware of it. If Sears is still selling three different grades of window up by you I would surmise that that region has not yet adopted the WeatherBeater program; it hasn't been offered there yet or that the rollout is going slower than envisioned.

I had an estimate by HD about 8 weeks ago. I was not offered any options.

"I'm sure the pesky insect Grasshopper will let us know"-Guy

Sticks and stones Luv.

"The Relfections, (Lower End) Same as Sears and HD,"-Guy

As expected, you haven't a clue on what you speak. But then again, that has become the norm.

Does this stuff come to you in dreams or do you pay a tarot card reader in Jackson Square for this info?

You like insulting this man Guy, and acting like he doesn't know what he is talking about. That may or may not be, but why aren't you telling us what the real facts are? What is different about the window that we wouldn't get from another Simonton dealer or from Sears?
These barbs aren't educating us at all. You work for Home Depot, so PLEASE tell us what is different. How do you expect us to be able to make decisions? I'm sure not getting too excited about having Home Depot out by your behaviour and answers so far, and I would really like to be left hanging.

Well obviously you don't remember our last episode in Simonton 101 Mr. Grasshopper. I was brought to the Simonton Window Plant in Paris Illinois to remedy some field problems. They were having manufacturing problems in house. So they paid me to come and see if I could isolate the problems. I was there on behalf of Sears, Renaissance Exteriors and yes Home Depot. I spent a week down there going through issues and finding the problems. Yes I found every one of them with a little help from they're staff. So I know exactly what goes into each window for Sears, HD and the local Dealers. So you can pull a card from your Tarot Deck and see how wrong you are ounce again! I'm not here to make things up or pull rabbits out of my hat. Maybe you should spend some time looking into the product you sell!! It will give you more knowledge to make yourself seem like you know what your talking about! Then you won't have to come on here and tell potential customers you have no clue. By the way I'm still waiting for that store number to check your stats. I'm sure you will never post it though.

After reading my post above, I see it reads like I'm talking to Guy in the first sentence, but I'm talking to grasshopper. Sorry about the poor sentence structure.

Guy Speaks the Truth!!

My name is Steve. I'll leave it at that. I was involved in Home Depots corpoate office in Chicago. I know who Guy is and can back up everything he's saying. My first point is to who ever grasshopper may be. If you feel it's a great boost for Home Depots sales to come on this board and hide behind grasshopper. I can't imagine how you treat customers. I'm simply embarassed for the store you represent.

Deep cleansing breath bro.... your points read loud and clear. I've made the mistake of allowing poorly founded responses to upset me too. It's not worth it. All reading these posts respect your knowledge and expertise. Here's one of my favorite rules to live by, "He who angers you... conquers you." Have a cookie.

My wife machine posted her name. Sorry. Guy was a major installer in MN for HD about four years ago. Yes he did visit the plant and yes it's true the Simonton window is made for HD. We upgrade the glass and use a better balance system in our windows. We also offer a lifetime warranty on installation and the product. We feel our years in business will keep customers faithful and coming back. Stumbling across this site and seeing fellow workers acting like this makes me sick. I do apologize for his behavior and will find out where he's from. The pro's on this board are very knowledgable on windows and installation. I hope you understand we don't all act this way. Sorry again

Steve

Good post Anne.. errrr.. Steve... LOL. I think that's all Guy wanted in the first place, was for Grasshopper to explain any differences and how they justify 30-70% higher prices than independent Simonton contractors instead of attacking sarcastically.

Thanks Steve-Anne person. I think I know you? I should have spent more time explaining the windows instead of letting my frustrations overwhelm me. Thank you also FenX for the calming cookie antics. I left for a boat ride after my past post. I'd also like to apologize to Tim and everyone else for getting out of hand. Very un-Professional of myself to get carried away. I'll stick to answering questions!! Sorry Again
