SUBJ: Schuco, Polybau availability, No. California; Milgard, Certainteed, Alside
Thanks for this website & its discussion board! This is my first posting.
What are the propects of Schuco being available in Northern California in the not-too-distant future? FenEx wrote that Schuco's presence in the West is in the works, but how far in the future does "in the works" mean? Months, years? Maybe never?
I am also having a hard time finding Polybau anywhere near my location {San Jose, Monterey, Santa Cruz, Salinas}. Any ideas?
I have narrowed my search to white, vinyl windows, barring the above two manufacturers not being available -- to those manufactured by Milgard, Certainteed or Alside. Two major issues I have to address are: 1) heat gain; and 2) noise.
Our home was built in 1997, stucco exterior. The builder put in detestable, crappy (mfr Ryloc or Rylock, I think) aluminum windows throughout the house, one single-hung of which has recently become completely INoperable. The manufacturer of these windows has since gone out of business. I have had screaming matches regarding these crappy windows for six years, and want to get a handful of windows (three to five) replaced at a time, the first batch soon. A few at a time due to budget constraints. Will probably get "New Construction" windows because have my doubts whether the existing frames are plumb & square (mostly sliders; some single-hung). I hate single-hung; instead will get double-hung or casement. Investigating laminates to reduce noise.
Comments welcome.

I don't have the answer to the Schuco question but Polybau had a plant in Hayward (510 Area Code). I think they have a few dealers in the San Jose area. Call Polybau to find out.
