HELP! Confused about the weatherstripping

Posted At: 2004-08-23 20:16:47

First of all, forgive my lack of knowledge on the topic...

We've had several installers quote us for Viny replacement Windows (replacing old single pane aluminum). We have wood siding on the exterior walls of the house.

All of them seem to have a different way of weatherstripping/finisging the installation.

Here's what we've heard so far:

1) Install a cedar 2x2 around the window that WE have to paint afterwards.(Simonton Windows)

2) Nail the Window and caulk around (Alside Sheffield)

3) Install a Vinyl fin around the Window (HD Renovations)

Now, is there a preferred method, or do all of this sound weird to you pros? We are really confused right now...

Not knowing the style of window your choosing or what they are doing. Order the window with a vinyl brickmol attached. I do it all the time. If you order it right it slides right back in the hole. Can't even tell it was changed out. You should not have any exposed nail fin visible upon completion. It should look like it needs some paint if anything. Good Luck!!!
