Does anyone know what "metal-out," or something like that, means with respect to replacement window installation. I ask because my estimate for the same windows is more than a friend's doing the exact same thing I am doing. The only difference is my estimate mentions "metal-out" and her's does not.
Also, I have a friend (a guy) who claims that he can install the windows for me, but I don't trust him. He's a really nice guy but I'm concerned that he has never done it before. The window-guy says that installing the windows is not that hard but trimming them is something that "takes years to master." Is that true, or should I let my friend (who I guess really, really, likes me, ha, ha) do me.

Metal out means a total unit replacement. They are pulling your entire window frame and all. Please don't let your friend do your window. You may not be friends when he finishes the job. Value the friendship and pay a Pro to do it. If you feel it's high shop around or call the salesman back and tell him he's to high.

Also if metal out means they will pull the metal frames make sure they flash the new ones new construction style.
