Subject: | Phoenix - Need new windows/replacement & Slider - HELP! |

Reading through the site - great info - some of it lost on me;)
I am considering replacing all windows in house, aproximately 15. Typical sizes 6'6', about have 3'6' and one 8'6'. Also want to put in two 12'8' sliders. Current windows slide , except for larger windows which have two operating units on the bottom that slide to the side leaving a large "picture expanse.
Do not beleive any of the windows are low E, although all are double paned. They are aluminum and 50% face the west sun - window frame burns hand and can feel high heat eminating from behind duets covering the window during the day.
Would like to get the most energy efficient window (refelcting heat) possible - while not spending a fortune! Will be restuccoing house as well and will replace at same time or within timeframe.
Any help? Was looking at Anderson - but after reading here wasn't certian. Also considered certaineed. Current window mfg is' Betterbuilt".
Thnkas for any help!!!

Therese,
First, you need to read the information on this link...I think it meets your needs perfectly.
Then, after reading, you will have a number of questions...so ask away.
And have fun!

Thanks for the link. I get the article. This may sound like a dumb question...so bear with me please...is loe<2> as indicated in the cardinal article the same as Low e?
How do you know which windows have the cardinal glass?
What's the difference between "replacement" windows and "new windows"?
If I am restuccoing anyways - does it really make a difference which ones I get?
Some of the windows , I want to make bigger or there is not a window - as in the addition that is being built...Pretty sure they means "new window" and not replacement...??
Framer has installed lots of windows - can have him do or am I better off getting someone else to install - or handy friend if doing "replacement" windows???Doesn't look all that hard..
While I can't say I know much about windows - am fairly well versed in construction - at least buzz word compliant...None of the walls that will be getting "new" windows or larger than current windows are load bearing - headers are not a problem, ceiling plates are 10' and all windows will be at 8'.
Just never payed much attention to windows beofre - except in this house they seem to be particularly BAD!
Thanks for any help!

Thought of another question:) Have read the articles re aluminum/vinyl or fiberglass. Still am confused...Is fiberglass that much better than vinyl?
Will vinyl hold up in the hot desert for any length of time?
Seems like folks at the big box stores like aluminum...why?
Thanks
