windows for sunroom

Posted At: 2004-08-27 18:25:38

We are adding a four-season sunroom addition onto our house and I'm looking for some input on the windows since we're gonna have at least 60 square feet of windows on each wall. Our house is 6 years old and has Pella proline windows throughout, casements mainly on the front of the house for aesthetics and double hungs everywhere else.

We have been very happy with the Pella windows, haven't had any problems with them at all, but were thinking of looking at some less expensive options - we don't want to skimp on quality but thought there may be another manufacturer just as good, without necessarily paying for the "brand-name" if you know what I mean.

We want wood windows and will also have a wood floor and ceiling with a pellet stove for heat.

The contractor we're working with showed up wearing his Pella hat and he's gung-ho Pella all the way and didn't even talk about anything else.

Here are the questions I'm mulling around in my mind:

1. Should we match our existing Pella windows without even looking at anything else?

2. double hung vs. casement - the contractor prefers casements - is it just personal preference? How much more expensive are casements? I was thinking double hung because we want a "cabin" "porch" feel and I love pushing the top half down to catch the breeze without blowing everything else in the room around.

3. Are there alternative manufacturers we should be considering that have very good quality wood windows also?

thanks for any input you all have!
