I have a 22 year old 2 story house with 8" cedar clapboard siding and dual pane single hung alumnium windows. Clapboard butts up to the window with NO trim.
I want to replace same with vinyl single hung replacement windows without having to place a 1x3 around the window to hide construction work.
Possible??
Thanks

You may have to change your decision on no outside trim. I have seen jobs with trim painted the same as siding or trim painted the same as the windows and it is not that noticeable from the street.
If your old aluminum windows protrude past the butt of the siding and you have a good 3/8 inch surface to seal to you might investigate the flush fin windows. Use an experienced installer, however.
Don't even consider the tear out, screw and glue boys.
