Question about "field glazing" large Milgard windows.

Posted At: 2004-08-30 15:40:53

I have one 7' x 7' foot 6 lite opening and one 4' x 6', 4 lite opening. I'm using Milgard Woodclad and my Milgard dealer is not in the know. ;=) I'm doing the installation myself. What's involved with the units that must be "field glazed"?.... I mean do you get each lite of glass in a cardboard box from Milgard or what? The six lite window has 2 casements and 4 pictures. I assume the casements will snap in or something but how are the picture glasses installed? Are they just set in place and siliconed in or what? Thanks in advance.

The dealer wants about $750 to install this one 6 lite unit and that does not include new trim inside and out (i'm doing a complete tear out of the old windows)

Don't worry about it. It's easy to do. Use silicone to bed the glass and the snap bead covers up the other side. Pay attention to any setting blocks and be sure you know what side the lowE is on.

Is it "field mulling"? or "field glazing" because they are 2 different beasts.
