Replacing a 2-panel 10' wide slider

Posted At: 2004-08-30 17:46:14

It seems that there very few companies that will replace my 10ft. 2-panel aluminum frame slider with a dual-pane slider of the same dimension.

Some say it is way too heavy and others say that it is ok with steel rollers.

If I can't do the 2-panel, the 4-panel slider OXXO seems to look good. Anyone with an opinion what I should do?

if a 2 sec is to small, just have a 3 sec door put in. Were the two ends are stationary and the middle slides. I would suggest keeping it aluminum and not vinyl just for the extra support.

I strongly suggest against replacing it with an aluminum door everybody in this board knows that if you are replaceing aluminum with aluminum if is not because of a zoning issue is a waste of money. A lot of vinyl manufacturers already have an aluminum re inforced vinyl patio doors. 4 panel doors are a real good option as you keep the same opening size when the 2 dorrs are fully open.

I am talking about a ten foot wide (10') sliding patio door.

In other words, BIG and HEAVY.

From my research the term OXXO means two sliding center sections with fixed sides.

I want to get away from aluminum windows and patio doors.

Thanks for your input.

Would there be any reason to select a 3 panel over the 4 panel other than visual appeal or preference?

AT least my manufacturers that i know of wont make a 3
panel ten footer on their standard size doors. If they did i would imagine they would be customely pricey. If they did besides price no reason at all it would be up to you and the look you would want. Some masking tape can make your decision easier. Stick it to the glass on the existing patio door for a 3 panels divide it in 3 sit back take a look at it and then do the 4 panel see which one rubs you the right way.

Great technique E-z! Sounds like a good way to illustrate the difference.

In the 6 different price quote/measurements it seemed that the choice was between 3 and four panel doors. Two said that a 2 panel could be done.
