Window USA

Does anyone know anything about Windows USA and their Alaskan brand windows? I had the salesman over last night and he was pretty convincing. I ordered the windows knowing I had 3 days to reasearch and then back out if I need to. Any information would be helpful. Thanks.

I would recommend the Alaskan Vinyl Windows System thru Windows USA. They are very energy efficient & Energy Star rated. Great customer service also.
Hope this is helpful.

Jennifer, who is the actual manufacturer? Do you have their web address? Thanks.

You seem pretty sold on these windows Jennifer. What data and experience are you using to give this advice? I'm not familiar with them and am curious.
Are you a customer?
Or do you just sell their product?
{Nothing wrong with that last one by the way. If you sell it and like it, tell us. That in itself is valuable experience because you get to see it perform in the real world}

I canceled my order with Windows USA. Their price for 12 windows started out at $13,000, then went down to $9,300, then to $7,300, and finally down to a special Texas price of $6,100. If they would have started out at $6,100 I probably would have bought the windows. We recieved $100 just for listening to the presentaion, (which lasted 5 hours) we couldn't get rid of him.

Been there and done that with windows USA. When my wife picked up the phone and dialed the police he left. I do think the window was good, but get real about the price. I have met one of their salesmen. He told me the best way to get aa good price, was to finance them and then not be satisfied and ask them to put the old windows back. That is part of their salespitch. Of course they don't have them and you give them next to nothing.

I don't think we are going to get an answer from Jennifer. No one seems to know the manufacturer. Looks like a big direct sales outfit.

Does anyone know of any organized effort to clean up the replacement windows marketplace? It seems to me that the good window companies would want and support something like that becuase they all get a bad name due to the way some of the companies take advantage of people.
This web site is great, but it seems like some form of industry organization would be working on this problem.

They (sales) can be like a virus, or parasite. I though about throwing one out the door, but did not want my sons to see this.

Industry Clean Up

Curious,

You are asking an interesting question.

The high pressure sales tactics, and high prices, seem to be mainly linked with the large window vendors, not the local community contractor.

What these high pressure outfits are learning is that high pressure does make some high priced sales, and the consumer may be very happy with their new windows, BUT that same consumer will not refer the company.

Their customer often will not refer them because they don’t want their friends exposed to the pressure.

The lack of referrals and lack of additional business has been driving up both lead cost and the cost of sales. They simply miss a lot of the easy, no lead cost, referral and repeat customer business, because of their sales tactics.

They are also turning consumers off by insisting the husband and wife be present during the initial visit. Some companies lose up to 1/3 of their leads because the hundband and wife cannot or will not meet the salesperson during the initial visit.

This rejection of their sales process significantly drives up lead and sales cost for these companies.

Eventually economic pressure will force them to change their ways.

The “Tin Man” high pressure tactics were designed for the GI generation and today’s Baby Boomer generation is better educated and more savvy so the old traditional selling method is rapidly losing effectiveness.

Showrooms instead of in-home sales and a different breed of salesperson will eventually replace the “Tin Man” style. That evolution has already happened in the roofing business, and for the most part the siding business.

Seems to me the high pressure sales types seem to be migrating to time share or land sales.

Hi Kent,

A saleman from Window USA came to our home and gave his presentation on the Alaskan windows. We were very impressed by the high quality materials used and energy efficiency. Checked locally and found comparable window replacements unit just as good and priced somewhat less. What sold us on the windows was customer service after the installation.

But, we were not happy with the price quoted us and thanks to you and the others who told about there experience. We were able to to get a reduced price of several thousands dollars. It would be nice if they had a set price for everyone.

Thanks,

CC
