How to indentify installed windows?

Posted At: 2004-09-11 22:20:51

We have a house that was built in late 2001, and are unable to find the manufacturer's name/model on the windows anywhere. The only identifying number I can find is on the screen (A-X7164). Any ideas?

Also, I need to know how to remove the top sash of a single-hung window. Can it be removed without taking apart the whole unit?

I can provide pictures if that would help.

Thanks,
Jeff

Look in the jambs, the header or on the top of the top sash, usually there is some kind of sticker. Most companies put something on their window for warranty purposes.

Are these wood or vinyl? If vinyl, there typically is no sash and the glass is installed directly into the frame.

Thanks for the info Greg. They're Vinyl. So if the glass on the top is damaged, do you have to replace the entire frame?

Thanks.

If they are singlehungs, then there should be a snap in glazing bead around the glass you can take off to R&R the glass.
If you are not comfortable doing this, a local glass company may be much cheaper than an emergency room.

There are a couple places they hide the stickers. Open the bottm sash and look straight down on the back side around the sill area. Where the bottom sash hides and seals by the lift handle. It's usually facing the outside. You can also go outside and look in.
