Milgard window reviews/ Magic Windows/ retractable screens

Posted At: 2004-09-14 17:05:08

Does anyone know the pros and cons of Milgard replacement vinyl windows? Everyone that we talk to say Milgard windows are not that great but the companies that install Milgard say they are the best. We are extremely confused and can not find many good window reviews. We are also looking for pros and cons of Magic windows. We really like the look of no screens but have been told that the Magic windows are not the best quality. Any advice on retractable screens would be appreciated. Some companies say to stay away from the retractable screens because they cause many problems down the road. Please help!

Milgard vs. Pella

Posted At: 2004-09-15 07:45:22

In the desert in Las Vegas area, we're replacing 8 single pane windows w/low-e double pane; trying to decide bet. Lowes w/their Pella (the installer would be subcontracted) and an independent Milgard installer.

The prices are similar. (We also priced Simonton and Pacesetter, but they're too expensive.)

Any advice on which window is better -- Pella or Milgard?

Thanks!

After you carefully read both warranties you will have no problem deciding which window manufacturer you want a relationship with.

I appreciate your getting back to me, but I'm ignorant about most of what people are talking about on this site and have tried to research on both manufacturers but actually I'm still at a loss.

If you could be less cryptic and explain to me a little what you mean by both warranties I'd appreciate it. Also, do you or does anyone out there know if there's a big difference between the windows themselves?

Thanks --
Tim

I've said this before, but asking "is Milgard better than Pella" is like asking "is Toyota better than Chevy" ie it depends on which Chevy and which Toyota.

Secondly, it's been posted that "Pella Thermastar" is actually the "Viking" window. So, you may want to search for Viking and get some feedback.

I only know what I read here, but I believe "mm" is alluding to the fact that the Milgard window would have a much more comprehensive wty (less exclusions) than the other one mentioned.

The consensus on the Viking window seems to be that it's just "ok", nothing special (I interpret the comments as "low-end"). For anyone to give an opinion on your Milgard window they would probably need to know whcih one.
