What other moderately priced good vinyl windows would you recommend that we can purchase ourselves and install ourselves other than Pella Thermastar and the Home Depot product? Is it unheard of for a contractor to measure your windows without having him to do the install?

I get this request all the time..
Please don't take this the wrong way.
If you can't measure your windows, are you sure you want to install them.
Most Furnish only sales have a very small amout of profit built so the measurement costs would out weigh the profit. And if installation does not go smooth, the contractor is blamed for mismeasurements and so on.
As for useful advise, most siding supply outlets sell widnows, you might try there, You will be require to provide the exact window sizes and once ordered (right or wrong) they are yours..
