Hello, all. I stayed awake last night worrying about windows and all of the choices there are. I think we are going with vinyl replacements. The guy installing them gave me three quotes for Simonton Prism windows. He got his supplier to quote the Bronze, Ultra Gold, and Platinum Prism line. For 9 double hungs without installation, the costs were: Bronze--$1450, Ultra Gold--$1750, Platinum--$2100. That does not include installation. He is my neighbor across the street and has done excellent work for me in the past. He showed me the quote from his supplier and is selling the windows to me at his cost. I've visited the Simonton website numerous times and have been looking online for reviews of the windows. Is there enough difference in the windows to choose either the gold or platinum over the bronze? If so, what are those differences in layman's terms? Also, what would you choose?
Any information you care to share would be greatly appreciated.

We are trying to make the decision on the windows by Monday. Anyone have any comments regarding the Simonton Prism line?

Get the Platinum, the gold is the same as the bronze except for the addition of low-e/argon and a stepped sill. The Platinum is a totally different frame and sash that is stronger with additional points of weatherstripping and a nicer look.

Hi Bill,
I have the Prism windows, and I loved them up until I started hearing a lot of noise coming through them. I think this is common problem in many different vinyl windows. A neighbor in back of me complained of the same problem and he lives on a quieter street. I guess I am sensitive to noise because my husband does not seem to mind it. It almost sounds like the window is open when a car or bus drives by. Also on cold nights I feel a slight cold draft from the windows, is this normal or should windows be air tight? The installer assured me that the windows are tight.
