Hi
I am looking to replace my windows as they are brutal. In this area you see the name Harvey mentioned a lot although I think it is exclusive to the area (Massachusetts). I have just had a quote for Alside Excalibur at $279.00 a window. I am wondering if that is good? My goal is to get the best for the least, I want a good quality product that is reasonably priced. A good value. Can someone with knowledge on replacement windows recommend a price point or window models which I should not go below so that it will be worth the cost to have done. Is this model good enough or should I get something better in this brand or another brand ? I would like to get something in this price range if possible or if I have to a little higher. I would appreciate your recommendations.
Thanks
Charlie

hi. just had a quote from harvey distributor here in central
new jersey. about $450 a window. exterior looks like it
would look pretty good. but i'm really looking for something
that would go with a victorian style. they don't offer
any grid inserts either, which really turned me off to them.
does anyone know of any companies that do offer the grids
on replacement windows, but are in the $400-500 price range.
someone suggested cabernet windows, any info? any help
would be appreciated. thanks.

Window shopper, what does that price include? I had some excaliburs installed for $320 each. This included low e, argon, grids and capping the trim. The excalibur seems to be a decent window, but like others have suggested, it is better suited for smaller openings. I have some other heftier windows for my large, frequently used openings. One thing I really liked about the excalibur was the availability of a woodgrain color that perfectly matched my natural woodwork in some of my rooms. The woodgrain ones were another $50 extra, but worth it.

Try Best Design Windows, Inc. in Brick, NJ. I'm getting Soft-Lite vinyl replacements with internal grid. My Soft-Lite windows have triple-pane, low-e/argon w/Super Spacer and are non-prorated lifetime warranty. Soft-Lite windows come in a few exterior colors as well as interior colors (including woodgrain), numerous glass options (bevelled, etc.) and numerous grid options. Check them out on the web (both Soft-Lite and Best Design Windows). I researched a lot of windows and I wanted one w/Super Spacer. The Soft-Lite product looks good all around. My installed price fits within your range. Mine are slated to be installed in the next 2 weeks. Good Luck!

I looked at soft-lite windows and they seam to have very little vinyl to support three panes of glass? Salesman said it's the new look with more glass. will they hold up over time? I guess i don't want to find out!

Does anything really hold up over time any more? I guess you could find flaws in any window. I feel better about the lifetime warranty on the window. Company reputation should also be considered. Softlite has been around for 65 years. I've read in other posts that they resolve warranty issues well.
