Dessicant

We recently had new windows installed. When inspecting the windows we noticed the dessicant had slid to the bottom to form a large blob on all windows on both sides. Is this normal and or should we be concerned?

Who made the windows, Shell?
If you have a metal spacer, then the dessicant should be enclosed in the spacer.
If you have a non-metal, then the dessicant is part of the spacer.
If you have exposed dessicant, then you have some issues that may need to be addressed.

I think they are a jeld-win product. I am assuming the spacers are non-metallic as the dessicant is clearly visible in between the panes. The dessicant is not exposed to the outside but rather is dripping down on the inside, imagine molasses dripping down the side of a wall. There is a steady stream with a blob at the bottom.

My thought would be that the IG is clear with no Argon. I'll bet they never plugged off the file holes for Argon. When they were finish coated with the goober it seeped in the hole and puddled up. I can't think of anything else that would do this. I agree with Obee-one that it's not right and should be looked into. GITRDONE!!

That dosen't sound very appealing.
Do you have any idea which Jeld-Wen, Shell?
There are three wood manufacturers and three vinyl (off the top of my head, but could be a couple more vinyl's under their envelope).
Are these wood or vinyl windows?

They are vinyl windows.

If you have Jeld-Wen vinyl, then you have either Wenco or Summitt windows.
I really would suggest calling Jeld-Wen's customer service line and describing the problem to them.
I have a couple of thoughts, but without seeing the windows I hesitate to make a specific recommendation other than contacting the company.

Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Call 1-800-633-3610 and ask for Jorge Virtue. He is in Japan this week, but he is the service manager in Stayton Oregon. He also can help with issues in northern california. This problem is know and can be taken care of without a hassle. Hope this helps.

Scott,

Thanks for the reply, but I am very curious what is happening. As I mentioned, I have a couple of thoughts, but really would like to know what it is.

Thanks
