Grids on Schuco/ Simonton Contoured available??

Posted At: 2004-09-30 02:45:41

Ok I had sales rep show me a Schuco & Simonton Window. I guess you guys are right as the Schuco window was pretty impressive and just seemed alot more sturdy and well built in a side by side comparision.
I'm told that the 3 pane ( 4000) does not come with a contoured grid ?? Is that true? I love the window but the flat grid seems kind of cheap looking.
The contoured grid from Simonton looks alot better but I'm not sure if that comes in 3 pane with Krpton.
Can anyone shed some light on my grid problem.
I think I'm going Vinyl but want the best look I can get along with performance & noise reduction that the Schuco seems to offer-
Why can't I get a contoured grid on a 3pane schuco or a Simonton or can I??

The Schuco window does not come with contoured grids because of the TPS Glazing system and the space between the panes of glass. Simonton is a double paned window with wider spacing between the panes. The Schuco window looks great installed with the regular grids...contour grids in my opinion don't really look good in any window. I would definitely go with Schuco.

The grids are available in the Schuco, but only in the double glazed units. It's a thickness issue with the triple glazing.

Simonton has triple pane with two Low-e/sc surfaces, Krypton gas, Superspacer and Contoured AKA sculptured grids available in the Impressions 9800 window only. I find most people prefer the sculptured over the flat grid

If you max out the performance on the 9800 it measures up pretty well to a Shuco. Shuco will beat it by a nose but be prepared to pay throught the nose for Shuco.

I laugh when people ask for an opinion here on the estimate they just got for Shuco. I don't know what they expect to hear, this site is filled with Shuco dealers who will rubber stamp the price, it's like asking your salesman if its a good price. Its a good price for them.

Bill -

I must take issue with your comments on pricing. Yes, Schuco is probably the best constructed and performing mainstream window currently available in a sizeable portion of this country, but in my experience it's definitely not the most expensive. Now I fully realize that Schuco doesn't set the pricing - it's set by the independent dealer/installer and there are plenty of them that want to retire on just one or two sales - as there are with any brand. But there are also those that believe in a fair profit (as with other brands also). In my instance I was able to get the Schuco Corona series for THOUSANDS less than Home Depot or Sears Simontons. For THOUSANDS less than Gorell and probably a few others too.

I think that the pros on this site would definitely take umbrage at your charge that they 'rubber stamp' Schuco window pricing. In fact, I've seen a couple of them tell the asking party that the quoted price was a ripoff. Further, from what I've seen, the Schuco dealers on this site are in the minority - especially since Schuco isn't available west of the Rockies. From my position as an observer and sometime participant I'd say that you should offer a retraction of your derogotary remarks about them.

Art, I retract nothing. As a pro that is my opinion, when i see quotes of nearly $1,000.00 per a window as being described as below average compared to other larger markets I have to wonder. Your correct in that pricing can be a local thing and a dealer of any brand can get out of hand with pricing. I beleive in a fair ethical mark up and Shuco keeps a distance between dealers so if people want that window they must pay what the dealer wants. In my area ( one of the larger markets ) the dealer really marks it up which I cant complain about because it helps me sell windows. I'm happy for you in that you got a fair price for a great window, many are paying too much.

Bill, I take great offense at your ridiculous comment. I would probably have to be the most visible Schuco dealer on this site, and I have NEVER rubber stamped a high Schuco bid on this site. Quite the contrary. I have done everything I can to help people get fair deals on and off this site, and I have never hesitated to warn someone they are getting ripped.
I also try to help anyone who asks me in their decision making process, and have helped hundreds of people on and off-site with honest advice on their bids, no matter the brand or where they are. I have also praised and recommended many other windows (including the Simonton window you carry) even though I am a Schuco dealer.

In contrast, you seem to be threatened by the Schuco window and instead of useful comment or debate, you resort to name calling and character assasination. I for one don't appreciate the personal attack. Uneeda get some tact and Uneeda read a few months worth of posts to get your facts straight.

Bill

I was out of town or would have responded sooner. I respect your right to your opinion, but it is truly over-generalized and should not be directed at Schuco. As I know them very well, their exclusive contractor agenda is not to corner pricing, but to create sales exclusitivity motivation and quality control. I must openly admit that I read the same negative posts that you do... but they are all related to only a handful of dealers... not Schuco in general.

If you really want to play that game... provide a list of windows that you carry. Give me 24 hours, and I'll respond with a list of poor dealers selling each and every one of them.

As "you said", you are a pro.... so you must see the flaws in any business model. In short, this site is about windows, not dealers. Do you have a better window than Schuco?? If so, please bring it up... and convince the readers why it's better.

I also take offense to your comments. I am not a Schuco dealer... just someone willing to share. As per your comments, do you really believe that the hundreds of posts and emails I respond to were for personal gain by pushing Schuco products or BS'ing people? You might want to ask around... My loyality belongs to what I believe in... period, even if it goes another way.

I spent some time looking at past posts by both of you here and at that other active site and I found I was wrong about the rubber stamp comment. I found typically your responses to be informative well thought out a bit tilted one way but balanced ( like Fox News ) I found and old thread where FenEx even told the person to go with champion due to the excessive cost of the Shuco quote. So I retract the comment and offer an apology.

Am I intimidated by Shuco? No if they were installed for $400.00 a window I would be. I actually like them in the market, they raise the bar on quality and other producers must respond.

Can I come up with a better window? No but we get very close with the Simonton Impressions 9800. This is not the same product that distribution, Depot or Sears has, it’s a new dealer line that is not widely available yet It has a much nicer look and available with a triple-pane system, stacked Low-E SC , Krypton with Super Spacer DP55 and a Lifetime warranty w/ glass breakage. When I go against Shuco ( which is rare ) I have been successful in offering a better value.

Bill -

As an observer primarily I must commend you. In spite of what you had said previously you took the time and went to the trouble of looking to verify your charge and found it wanting. There aren't too many people that would do that and I find it refreshing. I'll bet that most regulars here look forward to your posts now that integrity has been shown.

If you're going to compare me to Fox News, then we're going to be buddies. I love that network. Thanks for the post friend.
