Re: Which Should Come First: New Siding or New Windows?

Since you are doing full frame windows it makes the most sense to do the windows first, if they have integral nailing fins, then the siding. The siding crew will then be responsible for all the water management. I would still require mechanical drip caps regardless. wayne theWindowNerd.com Thanks W...

Re: Which Should Come First: New Siding or New Windows?

As Todd was mentioning, they usually go together. Depends on what type of window they are tearing out? What is the current window? Wood, Vinyl, Metal, other? Thanks Wow, the windows that are coming out are the original single pane builder-grade wood windows, house was built in 1991. Doing windows a...

Re: Which Should Come First: New Siding or New Windows?

Tear off she siding and trim house wrap, windows then siding. The important thing is the siders windowers are on the same page since the windows are tied into the siding /weather barrier system. Always easier when the siders and windowers are the same contractor. I would have a meeting with both an...

Thanks masterext for the quick response. Could you help me better understand why that is the way to go? The other contractor I spoke to said the same thing, but did not explain why, I really want to understand it.

Which Should Come First: New Siding or New Windows?

I'm going to be having my windows replaced soon with Sunrise Restorations full frame windows, but I need new siding and gutters as well. I was thinking that while I am waiting for the windows to arrive, I could have the siding replaced with James Hardie fiber-cement siding. However, I was told by on...

Re: Window Sealants: Bostik (Siroflex) Duo-Sil?

Thanks WoW, I appreciate your input. I think I am going to request that my installers use QuadMax instead of the DuoSil. Hopefully that won't be an issue with them.

Re: Window Sealants: Bostik (Siroflex) Duo-Sil?

Duo-Sil is a great interior option and is what we use. One the exterior, its all Quad and Quad Max. Thanks WoW, I greatly appreciate the response. Do your installers find that Quad and Quad Max are particularly difficult to work with? Is one easier for installers to work with versus the other? I'm ...

Window Sealants: Bostik (Siroflex) Duo-Sil?

I'm interested in hearing the opinions of pros regarding window sealants, especially a product called Duo-Sil. My inclination was that Quad or Quad-Max was the preferred way to go, but the head of the installation team I spoke with told me that they prefer Siroflex Duo-Sil, which they say has produc...

Re: Replacing windows - Now lost

Stiletto, Your existing frame size is a real limiter. I would guestimate your frame size at 60.5" x 82" A standard 2'/6" french would be 62.25" wide. No match for that. Height is more of a problem with eliminating the transom. I would think you are looking for a 93" frame h...

Re: Replacing windows - Now lost

Tadcrazio, I'm curious as to exactly which ThermaTru door and which Provia door you got those quotes on. They each make premium and not-so-premium models, depending on which were quoted (along with glass options) is going to dictate how good those quotes are. I've got an existing 36x80" wood d...

Re: Do Sunrise NRG IGUs appear visually different from non-NRG?

Just an update for anyone interested: I spent a lot of time the past couple of days checking out actual installations of Sunrise Omega-12 LowE-366, and I am comfortable with it. Speaking only for myself, the issue of the "greenish tinge" and the overall VT of 0.49 on the Restorations doubl...

Here's a related post that provides further clarification on the lowE-366 VT discussion in another thread. (I know you are aware of this already DFWGal from the other thread, I'm just placing this link here for future readers of this thread, because its important.) https://www.replacement-windows.co...

Re: Do Sunrise NRG IGUs appear visually different from non-NRG?

There is no visible difference between the NRG IGU vs the normal IGU. The difference doesn't have to due with the low e coating but the nominal thickness of the glass on th4e outer pane. We mix and match NRG and NRG all the time. Thanks WindowDirectCinci, I appreciate you chiming in with your NRG e...
