Re: 1989 Andersen Windows (low e?)
Great picture, that is exactly what I was asking. No way to know for sure if you have LowE glass. If you do it's going to be single layer silver softcoat (dual layer silver weren't introduced for a few more years), or else a hardcoat. Neither of which would match current coatings, but that doesnt ma...

Re: 1989 Andersen Windows (low e?)
When you look between the glass panes, can you see a metal spacer keeping the glass apart? You may very well have edge welded glass, and that's why I asked about the spacer. If its welded you don't have LowE. If you can see the metal (aluminum) spacer between the lites then it's possible that you do...

Re: Don young duralite vs. cardinal xl edge spacer
Quick aside, Cardinal doesn't sub out the XL spacer to anyone else, so any window that has the XL (or Endur) spacer system, the IGU was manufactured in a Cardinal IG facility.

Re: 1960s? Window wall glass replacement
Todd, Back before they used spacers to separate the lites in dual pane glass, they used to weld the two pieces together...i.e welded glass. The glass was originally fabricated by either LoF or PPG. You can tell which company did it by looking at the weld. If I remember correctly, if the weld is on t...

Re: Wrong window installed - what should I do?
I had the same thought as HomeSealed, hoping that maybe you just had the wrong sticker that's why I asked if you could see a difference. And as WoW noted, the difference would be a lot more noticeable from the outside looking in.

Re: STC question
Consider two separate rooms identical in all ways other than one has a window with an STC 40 and the other a window with an STC 30. Imagine an outside noise source that is loud enough to be heard in the room with with the STC 30 but not in the room with the STC 40. Now place those two windows in the...

Re: window replacement chicago
I like that IG thickness a lot for both energy and sound performance. I would like it even more if one of those lites happens to be a different thickness than the others, say 4/3/4 or 4/3/3 or even 3/2/3 or 4/2/4.

First a question: you mention that the house is 16 years old so you are planning to replace all of the windows in the house. Why? Are they failing in some way, or is your concern that they are 16 years old so that you believe that they are reaching the end of their life expectancy? I am not recommen...

I think I'm going to order a higher quality infrared temperature sensor to get a more reliable picture of what I'm really dealing with. This gentleman from Virginia seems to have some very reliable data using an infrared sensor: The infrared thermometer he is using in the video runs about $100 or s...
