Re: 3M window tint
Are your current windows single pane or dual pane? If single pane there should be no problem. If dual pane do they have a LowE coating or are they clear glass? If clear glass you should have no problem, but would be better if you can apply the film to the exterior of the window. If dual pane with a ...

Heck, at that size and application I'd recommend tempered and 1/4" glass

Re: Window Replacement - South of Atlanta
If you don't mind sharing, what sort of flaw are you seeing that is being denied credit? When I approved or denied credit, it was to the window company or other entity but not to a homeowner, that would be the window company responsibility. I do recall one instance where I approved credit to a windo...

Re: Window Replacement - South of Atlanta
I retired before the SHTF, but prior to that I spent about the last 10 years of my career as the quality and technical manager at at residential window glass factory and I had more dealings with " industry standard " than I would have ever wished for. Although no longer directly involved, ...

Re: Window Replacement - South of Atlanta
My question to the pros here, is this "industry standard" a thing? Yep, it's real. They are probably using ASTM C1036* Standard Specification for Flat Glass as the guideline for their denial of warranty on the two flaws that you found in your windows. Without seeing the windows in person,...

Re: $38,000 for 8 windows?
I know pella isn't going out of business next year and if repairs are needed they would be around in all likelihood so I was prepared to pay a little premium but $38k for 8 quite ordinary windows? You might consider looking around a bit more, Marvin fiberglass might be a good place to start. Althou...

Re: Replace French doors with Slider
OTAC, 18 years in SOSUS.
Had the chance to ride P3A, B and C over the years. Generally hung out with the AW's on those flights.
Spent a bit of time in ASWOC's now and then in Bermuda, Kef, and Adak
Not an expert at any level about sliding doors unfortunately, except the glass and glazing part.

The C and D in the Barcelona options reference impact test requirement/performance based on ASTM E1996.
Level C refers to a 4ft, 4.5lb, 2x4 launched at 40fps
Level D refers to the much more common 8ft, 9lb, 2x4 launched at 50fps

Re: 1989 Andersen Windows (low e?)
Great picture, that is exactly what I was asking. No way to know for sure if you have LowE glass. If you do it's going to be single layer silver softcoat (dual layer silver weren't introduced for a few more years), or else a hardcoat. Neither of which would match current coatings, but that doesnt ma...

Re: 1989 Andersen Windows (low e?)
When you look between the glass panes, can you see a metal spacer keeping the glass apart? You may very well have edge welded glass, and that's why I asked about the spacer. If its welded you don't have LowE. If you can see the metal (aluminum) spacer between the lites then it's possible that you do...
