Re: Tax Credit Legislation
Interesting points WOW and ECO: Bring it back to basic needs and solutions for your business's and your clients. The market was beginning to show a flood of greenhorn pick-up trucks and new certification patches which scares the hell out of me too. I am working with the organizations that provide th...

Re: Tax Credit Legislation
My reply is pretty simple. We all have many reasons to look to government for things we cant provide for ourselves such as fire, police, roads, international policy and trade, and many, many more. Don't get me wrong, I HATE the ignorance in DC, but it is what it is for the time being. The simple fac...

Re: Inspecting windows after installation
It's not exposed to different temperatures from ambient interior air, but it is located at a considerable source of exterior, unconditioned air. Any airflow around the adjacent areas would create a positive or negative flow and thus still move the air unless the air was sealed on all sides. Look at ...

Re: Inspecting windows after installation
Interesting info HS! I am very familiar with Stack, Mechanical and Wind effects on homes but this is the first time I have heard of "Shelf Effect" in windows. Can you share the poster's name? The theory of a shelf effect seems only possible where there is no airflow or pressure influence. ...

Re: Inspecting windows after installation
Homesealed "The condensation on the the bottom of the upper sash glass does not necessarily mean a poor interlock seal. It could be a possibility, but that location will be the very first spot for condensation to occur on any window." Why do you think that is and how would you explain it? ...

Re: Spacers
The original post asked about PIB as a "Sealant", not as a spacer. We are talking about totally different components here. For Ecostar: As for my knowing more about spacer durability than Edgetech... hhhmmm (?) ... No... but what they require in the assembly process by their vendors to mak...

Re: intecept vs super spacer/ softlite windows
PPG Intercept is a poor choice when compared to SS for flexibility and conductivity. Intercept is simply a very cost-effective spacer (cheap) that is rolled off a coil and formed easily. It's belly is filled with desiccant to hide it's seal failures. Given these two choices, rely heavily on the seco...

Re: Spacers
Ecostar has been Ill advised on this. As stated by WOW, PIB sealants are superior to silicone in IGUs. Silicone application is a much less expensive process and is fine when it comes to repelling water, but it's inferior at retaining inert gas fills. As for the SS article, Super Spacer's so-called f...

Re: Inspecting windows after installation
Mad The so called "cold" air you feel may not be able to be addressed by caulking. As a matter of fact, it might not be airflow to the inside at all. It is more than likely conductive loss around the new frame due to poor insulation. Gorell provides a foam tape that is not sufficient on it...

Bye Bye Krypton Superwindows
The DOE released articles back as far as 1994 calling new emerging triple pane, Krypton filled units "Superwindows" due to their U-factors of .22 and below. Due to the automotive industry as well as others, Krypton is in short supply and therefore has increased in price by approx. 380% ove...
