Re: Seems expensive: Andersen Renewal price quote
Woody i dont know in your neck of the woods but complete replacement can get pricey. Here in California it can be anywhere from 400 dollars to 500+ depending on access/exterior trim/stucco patching and texture, interior trim or sheetrock returns and texture. Typically RBA charges over a grand for re...

Re: Retrofit vs. Total/New Replacement in LA County
Its amazing to me how even after calling the building department on proper up to code installation people keep on asking as if they would need reassurance on a misconception. Like getting 5 different Doctor opinions but yet looking for the one that tells you what you want to hear. The fact that one ...

Retrofit patio doors installation is almost non existing, in other words to retrofit the frame must stay in place and the new door would have to slide in between the frame. Its acceptable to pull the bottom sill of the old door provided you caulk and panflash the bottom with membrane paper. If the o...

Ironic indeed STAMPFEL that you are debating between Anlin and Certainteed. Up until 2002 Anlin was the official manufacturer for Certainteed in northern California. Anlin must have realized that they knew the business well enough to enter the manufacturer game so they have their window out there in...

Wayside: Sometimes you get lucky and you can replace just the windows. Specially when the bay is an actual bay that is part of your house, in other words the bay is a continuation of your house so is a walk in Bay Window. In theory you can change just the windows if is a replacement bay window but w...

When you retrofit a window because the aluminum frame remains some manufactures ask that you fill that void with a continuous support. Different manufacturers require different installation methods. In your case your doing a full replacement so it seems weird that the instructions say that. It looks...

Like PK said the critical part is the installation to be done right. You want your contractor to provide a detailed contract as to the method of installation. Never let nobody tear out your aluminum windows without proper flashing. And never let nobody retrofit your windows without proper insulation...

1) Quality and efficiency i rate 1.IN THE VINYL WORLD POLYBAU AND ANLIN THEN MILGARD 2) I have installed both and i have arguments pro and cons on both however i favor vinyl for seal against water failure. Vinyl is fusion welded while fiberglass corners are screwed in more chance of failure. As far ...

I would not dream od guaranteeing 40% savings as there are too many variables. You see windows are a big part of your energy loss but not all of it how about if the customers walls are not insulated, the attic, the floors  So if i was you i would ask them to put it in writing and also to give you...

Regardless if engineers think too much i think your installer is not thinking at all. In theory a casement window coulb be attached only at the top and at the bottom but i see various problems with that approach. First you Certainteed engineer is right without vertical jambs that window will fail to...
