Re: Inserts or Full Replacement
If you're doing new siding along with the windows, I'd do full-frame flanged new construction. If not, just replacement inserts. Those look like random Andersen knock-off narrow frame wood/PVC clad builder's grade windows. The exterior frame is very "narrowline" profiled with loosely fit v...

Re: Sunrise vs Great Lakes- Help
How is the Great Lakes model .03 better in the overall u-factor? If they're both glazing with double and stainless spacers with similar low-e, their u-factor should be virtually identical? A good Sunrise installer will shim and screw their narrow frame in which it will not sag, but good luck finding...

Re: Norandex vs Slocomb vs. Keep shopping
SL Imperial or Elements bottom sash edge of frame to start of glass is 3 11/16". Random older platforms such as Barrington, Imperial Classic or Pro would be 2 13/16". Top sash on their units features more glass as their platforms don't have equal sightlines. Those old Andersen Narrowline's...

Re: Sunrise window price increase
I didn't get the notice yet, but I've heard a big price jump is coming from a few larger Sunrise dealers that I communicate with. It's like every thing in construction right now. Insane. It seems like most of the manufacturing facilities cannot attack enough employees in our country. I don't underst...

Re: Norandex vs Slocomb vs. Keep shopping
If a window salesman where to show someone a double-hung hand sample as a SL Classic/Pro with an Elements or Imperial side by side, one would see the slightly more robust much better frame and sash design along with the the glass loss. However, if you saw the full "real world" sizes of act...

Re: 1989 Andersen Windows (low e?)
I'm so old that I remember being in 8th grade and my school toured the old GM auto plant in Wilmington Delaware. They're were building the Citation there and we saw some of the process. What a pile of junk. No wonder the door was opened so wide for Honda and Toyota to come in and kick our tails. Tha...

Re: Deciding window brands and pricing, vinyl Central PA
This is a little unrelated and not to beat a dead horse, but Window Wizards did a ton of installs in my area. They had a location just over the bridge from in Delaware where a lot of locals passed by for about 25-years. I've seen things from coming in behind them that would make the hair on the back...

Re: Window mfg identofication
That's an old Accu-Weld Epoch 2300 that was made under a private label for Window Wizards. Accu-Weld was sold to Haddon Industries which sunk real fast in 2008. You cannot get a replacement sash for that cocoa window. I have a homeowner with the exact same windows and labels. We are replacing a few ...

Re: Deciding window brands and pricing, vinyl Central PA
The EcoLite series doesn't fall into a "good, better, best" line up like what you may typically see from a window manufacturer. There is a substantial drop off from the Endure and Aspect to that Ecolite. I've installed all three series and can tell you that first hand. It's not even someth...

Re: Deciding window brands and pricing, vinyl Central PA
That Ecolite isn't remotely close in quality and engineering design to the OKNA 500 series. Night and day. I've only installed them once to a non-conditioned garage accompanying some ProVia doors and was very disappointed with them. Window World are mostly franchises with MI/Alside window products b...

Re: Deciding window brands and pricing, vinyl Central PA
I'm a ProVia and OKNA guy and I've never heard of a "silver" package from ProVia. It must be their version of a rename -private label? I hope it's at least the Aspect series and not ProVia's Ecolite which is not very good. The performance stats on the ProVia look like a window from 2001? I...

Re: Help deciding on vinyl replacement windows
Nothing really wrong with the Pro. It's very, very, "vanilla" from a visual aspect. Older platform from SL. It has a nice sill and has a narrow sash vinyl profile. They work nicely and and if your main concern is the most from the least investment, I think you will not be unhappy with them...

Re: Okna Window Price Increase? (Northern IL)
I think the dealer had an impossible to maintain price back in 2018. That was at least $150 below virtually every single OKNA dealers absolute lowest price. I would see that window between $800 and $900 in the Philly region and many dealers are even more. I would expect a black exterior to add quite...

Re: Picking windows
Homesealed is correct. That 7500 is the nicest window out there now. You will like the Vanguard and the Sunrise warranty is outstanding, probably the very best in the entire window industry on planet earth, and transferable to the new owners of the property!

Re: Picking windows
I like them all. I'm not sure how the Heatmirror on the Quantum 2 is holding up long term? If you have larger DH's in regard to width, the sill will be much stronger on the Starmark over the Vanguard. I like the Vanguard price though, it's a window I've been installing since 2006 with great success ...
