Re: Full Window Replacement Cost
I'm not a fan of that Pella private label vinyl offering. I thought that Power had jumped over to ProVia as I was told that? I'm also not a fan of the capping (exterior finish work) methods of Power subs.

Re: United 200 series comparable to OKNA 500 or 800 series
That United product is a mess, period. I've never seen so much exposed poly fiber weatherstripping exposed into the jambs on a window ever. I would never consider box store subs for the installation of doors and windows as for every decent crew that they send out, they have 10x as many butchers. Uni...

Re: New Construction Received Replacement Windows from Simonton?
If you're running j-channel and vinyl siding utilizing sill angles as nailing flanges is going to look total hack job short bus. The exterior plane of the window will be on the same plane as the sheathing and not sticking proud like a new construction window. You will not have the outer portion of t...

Re: New Construction Received Replacement Windows from Simonton?
Those are pocket replacement windows and those vinyl pieces are sill angles for the bottom of a window which would be totally flat jamb wise. A typical wood window with pitched sill intact would have a pitch to it and there would be a gap between the outer bottom of the vinyl insert replacement wind...

Re: Medford, NJ Master bedroom window replacement
Thank goodness the OKNA dealer nearest to you closed up shop a few years ago, they were pretty rough on the installation side of things. There are still a few within 30-minutes of you. The Haddonfield dealer may be the closest to you? I have an issue with Medford and trying to get out of that town a...

Re: Is this installation information correct?
Personally, I prefer to cut off the exterior aluminum stop with fine tooth metal blade in the SawZal. It's not hard if you have correctly honed skills of working with trade power tools. If measured correctly with squaring room in the wood (sashes are gutted), one can get plenty of foam around the wi...

Re: Windows for a Rental Property
I know your area pretty well as I lived in Middletown for years before I moved just back across the bridge back in 2008 to our family farm just off the Delaware River. Of the windows that general contractors/roofers/siders have to access to, ProVia vinyl is better than the ViWinco, Slocomb, MI, Winc...

Re: Can you shorten Provia Endure Double Hung Sash Stop
When you look above the bottom sash to the side jambs, the jamb pocket closest to you/inside will have a snap in vinyl piece that runs to the top head area. It covers the open jamb and balance. It's a cosmetic piece and easily removed and snapped back in place. Where your old windows the original wi...

Re: Can you shorten Provia Endure Double Hung Sash Stop
Yes, you can just pop them out with any kind of thin narrow ridgid prying device like a straight screwdriver. You will get them out easier if you remove the thin jamb pocket balance covers first which snap right back in. You can cut the sash stops with strong snips or hacksaw then file to level as n...

I've found that I can sort of finger push atop the sill deck to find soft verses healthy. Are you in North Wilmington?

Re: Replacing wood windows in northern Delaware
The local to Delaware box store subs really hack up Andersen Narrowline units with the Permashield cladding type installations. They do them as fast as possible at lightspeed with repurposing the white plastic jamb liners as interior stops which looks like amature hour regarding the finish work. The...

Most are made by a bay, bow, or specialty shape outsourced manufacturer like Ventana. The hardware and spacer might change a little to align with a particular manufacturer's specifications. I've mostly done Sunrise, OKNA, Soft-Lite, and ProVia and they are all very similar. The key is to not go too ...

Re: Window Trim Challenge
It wouldn't be all that much work to take a multi-like oscillation tool and cut those narrow trim boards out even if they're sort of snuck into a built-in j-channel receiver if that's the case. Replace with some PVC Azek with some back caulking and stainless 16-gauge finish nails. No more paint main...

Re: First Time Replacing Windows in House - Wood to Vinyl?
Pella DH units are not the most homeowner friendly to tilt for cleaning. Compression jamb liners on the lower series like the Lifestyle and very awkward behind the lock sash top rail hidden actuator hooks to engage for tilting on the flagship series.

Did you reach out to The Window Nerd yet? He has the OKNA lines and possibly the Ideal. It makes sense to try to lock in with OKNA since they're manufactured so close to you.
