Re: Question for Delaware Mike

Dover is right on the edge for me regarding my service area. Did a private contractor install those for you, or where they in the house previously before you obtained the house? I ask as I'm friendly with the local Pella store on 202 in North Wilmington. They could guide you through obtaining OEM re...

Re: Alside Windows from a local vendor - right price?

Marketing outfits that just happen to perform "home improvements" love that dated tin man "model home" nonsense. Create a fictional price that no window was ever sold at just to create a "too good" to be true once in a lifetime opportunity with a heavy dose of fear of l...

Re: Which of these three windows to choose?

The sill on the Pella is a poor design. I don't care for the cheaper looking locks and tilts on that platform as well. The other two options are two of the best out there, you will love either one.

We can go beyond technical with the combined field experience here. Without pictures and being in front of the project, we don't see what you see.

Re: Anderson 200s as replacement windows?

What makes a replacement window and retrofit/insert pocket window is the fact that it's frame depth is 3.25" and fits inside of the original wood window frame series of stops (exterior/interior) which allows for a less comprehensive project as one doesn't have to go down to the rough opening or...

Re: Okna 700 Casement Windows Issues

Being square is more important than that of just being level at the sill perfectly. One desires plumb, level and square provided a product is actually made correctly. With casements operable sash sag on the strike side is paramount for pro installers to tweak. We can set these things perfectly accor...

Re: WINDOWS ARRIVED/THE PROCESS BEGINS

Soft-Lite Elements and LS platforms have to the strongest constant force balance that I've ever seen. 3/4" thick balance shoe. I had to change one out yesterday with jamb stretchers and a heat gun. Not Soft-Lite's fault as I think my senior homeowners accidentally tilted the bottom sash without...

Re: Window Quotes in Tennessee

Every house can be completely different regarding installation and the time required from start to finish to sign off on a window opening. One cannot gauge the cost of a window project without knowing installation details.

Re: Mulling: Factory vs On-Site

That strip of vinyl would be referred to as mullion, or specifically a zero degree mullion that joints the windows together. When the factory does this they typically add stainless steel union mulling plates to the top and bottom jambs as that adds more strength to it for transport and loading/unloa...

Re: Pella Proline replacement options

Pella sill master frame. Is that the giant extruded double walled bump up at the bottom of older Pella wood/clad DH's? I've cut them out before and it's not fun for sure. Grinder, sawzal, carbide teether multi-tool blades. I didn't want the insert sitting so high with all of that vinyl showing.

Re: Window Quotes in Tennessee

Rick is 100% correct. I have a new Aeris black out white in triple-glazed Aeris in my own house to a front room with brick facing. It's a pretty window, but that pocket sill is terrible and old Veka extrusion isn't my favorite. The glazing beads that Veka sets up for that window are only tension fit...

Re: Okna 800 vs SoftLite Elements vs GreatLakes ComfortSmart

As impressive as a window is the Elements is, I can't live with the lack of top sash to head cavity tech to prevent top sash incidental drift from operation of the bottom sash. I had to go back to way too many of my Element installations to field fix and tighten balances after homeowner complaints o...

Re: Sash Lock style advantage/disadvantage (NT Windows)

Most auto style locks require quite a downward force of closing the sash to engage the locks. Once cannot just gently pussyfoot them and expect the locks to work from my experience. I sold them with Schuco and Soft-Lite and got away from them as the homeowners didn't really like them and neither did...

Re: SILICONE vs POLYURETHANE

Soudal NP-1 would be their popular silicone. I utilize their AP-2 poly hybrid for back caulking exterior aluminum capping for it's grab plus it's cheap.
