Re: Request pro advice on sliding patio door
I do all three as well and don't care for ProVia's vinyl sliding patio door. It's an odd vinyl extrusion profile with an overly complicated screen system. I had too much QC issues with them as well. ProVia's hinged patio doors are top notch. The Sunrise door can be a little fussy, however an experie...

Re: Estimated Replacement Cost for Andersen Renewal Window, 2023?
After negotiations and gimmick price drops, you may get them down to about $30K. They pay their installers very poorly by the way for the amount that they're charging. They do have some of the better subcontractors out there compared to lower priced window franchise dealers, but at least 30% of thei...

Re: Okna 600 vs. Provia Aspect
I sell and install both brands and series and can tell you with 100% certainty, the 600 is a better window and it has more to do with the vinyl extrusion engineering. The OKNA lines are tighter at the meeting rails regarding air leakage. Folks get super giddy with the fancy Duo-Tech locks on the End...

Re: Multiple quotes and confused
Many WW franchises are offering an MI vinyl windows and Earthwise labels in my area are typically Slocumb. I prefer the ProVia Endure or Aspect over those other platforms provided ProVia manufacturers your order correctly quality control wise. There are a bunch of non-direct ProVia exterior roofer t...

Re: Okna vs Soft-Lite vs ProVia
From an engineering aspect, the OKNA 800 is the clear winner. SL on paper is a great unit, however the incidental top sash "drift" when operation of the bottom sashes which causes the locks and keepers not to be in alignment was why I dumped SL years ago. Sunrise doesn't like interlocks an...

Re: Expectation vs. Reality
If you had tight and almost painted shut wood windows that were not drafty along with super tight storm windows, that pocket between the storms and wood sashes can insulate from sound pretty good sometimes and modern windows can in super rare circumstances actually allow more sound from the exterior.

Re: Sealant to match mortar or windows?
Gray mortar is sort of easy to match up. Getting a 100% match is not reasonable. I don't like the spill over of color matched to the window frame or capping color to the mortar area as much as matching with a sanded grout like sealant. The very large flooring stores in my area carry sanded kitchen/b...

Seaway's Encore Elite looks like a nice product. Frame looks similar to the SL Elements.

Re: Pella Proline replacement options
Pella and Peachtree build two of the most puzzling wood/alum clad double hung unit out there for retrofitting their wood frame "pockets" for inserts. Window pros don't have too many issues with them, but a weekend carpenter might be not best suited for the sawzal and aluminum capping exter...

Re: Power - Symphony Pella windows
So, they're performing sort of a new construction type of install? Or just an insert/pocket replacement window plus all new interior trim? I don't like that window and they will not even be selling in next year from a little bird told me. Pella vinyl is not highly regarded.

Re: Soft-lite elements and Barcelona the same?
I'm an Elements dealer, however I replaced Soft-Lite in my line up with OKNA about a decade ago and the Barcelona wasn't out yet. I remember my rep talking about it and seeing a sample. If your DH units have the Duo-Tech locks with the built-in tilt actuators plus the exterior crown molding vinyl sc...

Re: After Install Questions
Most commonly utilized interior stops with sheetrock returns would be simply base shoe molding. Typically pine primed white. Quick and easy. Since sheetrock and joint compound to the returns is sort of goofy in regards to being true, carpenters put the head piece up with straight cuts and cope the t...

Re: Window installation Question?
When setting a large picture window (vinyl) the interior sill area would never be exposed to exterior water like an open double hung or casement. The installer would find exact center, drill with a bit typically at 5/16" to 3/8" and plug with a factory face plug. One could also toe in a wh...

A little bit of Goof Off on a rag will remove the interior overspray. Don't go crazy with it.
