Re: Replacing wood windows in northern Delaware
I've found that I can sort of finger push atop the sill deck to find soft verses healthy. Are you in North Wilmington?

Re: Replacing wood windows in northern Delaware
The local to Delaware box store subs really hack up Andersen Narrowline units with the Permashield cladding type installations. They do them as fast as possible at lightspeed with repurposing the white plastic jamb liners as interior stops which looks like amature hour regarding the finish work. The...

Re: Garden Windows
Most are made by a bay, bow, or specialty shape outsourced manufacturer like Ventana. The hardware and spacer might change a little to align with a particular manufacturer's specifications. I've mostly done Sunrise, OKNA, Soft-Lite, and ProVia and they are all very similar. The key is to not go too ...

Re: Window Trim Challenge
It wouldn't be all that much work to take a multi-like oscillation tool and cut those narrow trim boards out even if they're sort of snuck into a built-in j-channel receiver if that's the case. Replace with some PVC Azek with some back caulking and stainless 16-gauge finish nails. No more paint main...

Re: First Time Replacing Windows in House - Wood to Vinyl?
Pella DH units are not the most homeowner friendly to tilt for cleaning. Compression jamb liners on the lower series like the Lifestyle and very awkward behind the lock sash top rail hidden actuator hooks to engage for tilting on the flagship series.

Did you reach out to The Window Nerd yet? He has the OKNA lines and possibly the Ideal. It makes sense to try to lock in with OKNA since they're manufactured so close to you.

The RBA product is a very attractive product with great glass. It's nothing special regarding performance. They tend to have decent to exceptional installers, but I lost respect for them when talking to some of them regarding their pay scale. They're very underpaid. At least 30% of the cost goes rig...

Re: Okna 600 vs Alside Mezzo vs Interstate 6800
The Mezzo is well below the engineering and quality control standards of that OKNA 600 series. There isn't one single thing about the Mezzo even close to anything OKNA offers. Mezzo has very thin walls thus it isn't a very strong frame window and utilizes an economy spacer to the glass. I've only pe...

Re: Exterior Trim Install Question
Looks to me like the installers didn't really understand building science regarding "tabbing" of the capping leg or head cap which covers a cut termination piece of metal? Looks like white G8 like metal with a brickmold face trim formed profile, but the miters don't match that to add insul...

Re: Aluminum capping over a vynal window.
In my opinion, that window unit would have greatly benefited from being sized, manufactured, and installed as a flanged new construction unit. I'm sorry they did that to you. That picture belongs as a centerford in Fangoria magazine.

Re: basement window replacement
That frame has typical surface rust, not rust like on a 25-year old Ford pickup in Northeast that requires a ton of money at the autobody shop to make correct. Most outfits will slip a vinyl hopper unit into the steel frame and jazz up as much as they can with peel and stick vinyl snap INSTA/RWD tri...

Re: Norandex 3000 v Wincore 5400 v Midway EnviroSealed
Wincore is pretty much an entry level "flip/rehab" price product for general contractors/flippers/homeowners looking for the cheapest product that that they purchase. It's a Simonton "knockoff" product and that even has plastic locks, no thanks.

Re: Request pro advice on sliding patio door
I do all three as well and don't care for ProVia's vinyl sliding patio door. It's an odd vinyl extrusion profile with an overly complicated screen system. I had too much QC issues with them as well. ProVia's hinged patio doors are top notch. The Sunrise door can be a little fussy, however an experie...
