Re: Pella Proline replacement options

Pella sill master frame. Is that the giant extruded double walled bump up at the bottom of older Pella wood/clad DH's? I've cut them out before and it's not fun for sure. Grinder, sawzal, carbide teether multi-tool blades. I didn't want the insert sitting so high with all of that vinyl showing.

Re: Window Quotes in Tennessee

Rick is 100% correct. I have a new Aeris black out white in triple-glazed Aeris in my own house to a front room with brick facing. It's a pretty window, but that pocket sill is terrible and old Veka extrusion isn't my favorite. The glazing beads that Veka sets up for that window are only tension fit...

Re: Okna 800 vs SoftLite Elements vs GreatLakes ComfortSmart

As impressive as a window is the Elements is, I can't live with the lack of top sash to head cavity tech to prevent top sash incidental drift from operation of the bottom sash. I had to go back to way too many of my Element installations to field fix and tighten balances after homeowner complaints o...

Re: Sash Lock style advantage/disadvantage (NT Windows)

Most auto style locks require quite a downward force of closing the sash to engage the locks. Once cannot just gently pussyfoot them and expect the locks to work from my experience. I sold them with Schuco and Soft-Lite and got away from them as the homeowners didn't really like them and neither did...

Re: SILICONE vs POLYURETHANE

Soudal NP-1 would be their popular silicone. I utilize their AP-2 poly hybrid for back caulking exterior aluminum capping for it's grab plus it's cheap.

Re: Simonton 6500 vs Reliabilt 3900

Relibuilt out of Lowes is a private label from Atrium. Atrium has a horrible reputation in our industry. Very low-grade stuff by a not so good manufacturer. Simonton is very dated, but still shares a decent reputation. The platform is very old at this point.

Re: SILICONE vs POLYURETHANE

Typically, one will run a larger bead on brick returns to the frame or capping on vinyl windows. Silicone has a lighter body and I don't like larger beads of silicone, plus it will get very dirty over time by nature. The heavier body of old school regular OSI Quad is my go to on brick exteriors. Qua...

Re: Replacing the glass from another identical window

Many 80's/90's era aluminum builder's grade windows have way more aggressive glazing sealants holding the glass to the aluminum sashes and frames than what we see in modern vinyl windows. When we go to deglaze them for safe removal, we have to implement a torch to active the glazing compounds to rel...

Re: NJ Windows - and can’t break the bank

Not a fan of Pella or MI vinyl. I much prefer the Andersen A series over the 400. My sister has a 20-year old typical production new construction home down in Pennsville with the Weathershield windows too. I know that they're planning on having me put OKNA's in when the nest is empty in a few years.

Re: SE Pennsylvania farmhouse replacement windows and installer

Many manufacturers have different product lines and don't always allow dealers to have full access to every model as they have dealers in the same territories that cross paths. For an example, we do the Vanguard series which is now that model, and I don't have the Restoration line which is reserved ...

Re: Why is my window brown between panes?

Most of the NEBP locally to the Tri-State area were sold and installed through Power. However, they were in certain local lumberyards and many GC's would install them in Cumberland County. NEBP is sold through Plowmans in Millville also. Being in Elmer, there is a main distributor for those windows ...

Re: Why is my window brown between panes?

The windows should have two stickers. I cheap white Avery printer like in-house label up in the head cavity when one lowers the top sash down, however I've seen them on the sides of the sashes too. That has all of the information regarding the order and specs for NEBP to start to make up a new OEM s...

Re: Why is my window brown between panes?

That's the common failure of the Sashlite glazing tech/system from North East Building Products out of Philadelphia right off of 95S just north of the city. What you have is failure of the white vinyl spacer that implemented into the casement sash, this allows moisture to contact the low-e coating a...

Re: Anlin vs Provia

I forget who actually supplies ProVia with their glass, but I don't think it's Cardinal at all. They do utilize Tremco's Super Spacer glazing tech which is fantastic. No worries regarding them being around though, they have done nothing but grow over the last 10-year and will likely be about the lar...

Re: Deformed interior gasket - Vytex

That's spacer migration from bad glazing of the IGU production. I see that a lot on lower end windows that get slaughtered with direct sunlight especially if there is no low-e coatings on the glass. It's replaceable with new IGU units to the sashes.
