Re: Milgard Tuscany Windows - Anybody familiar with them?

The aluminum sill adaptor will be fine. It's stronger than vinyl, and won't effect the effeciency whatsoever. Out here in the midwest, every window gets aluminum trim. It weathers fine. You have absolutely no need for concern hopv. I think the western Milgards use aluminum pieces because they manufa...

I've sold both in the Detroit market, and here is my opinion: I'm not completely convinced that ProLine's will operate or last as long as the 400 Series Casement, however I like ProLine's aesthetics better. The 400 casement (especially if your going sand-tone or terra-tone) will have the viny wrappe...

If you deal with a company which has a strong foothold in new construction, vent direction ALWAYS outside view (unless it's a Kolbe door!) As I have been involoved in replacement for the last few years, I see more inside view. Makes sense, contractor in house, easier to get hinge direction right. Ar...

I've installed about a half dozen or so homes with the Kolbe Sash kits. I think, if you have one of those homes that "have to have" wood windows, it's a nice alternative to a full tear window unit. Some of the problems we had were: 1. Screens. We were measuring and ordering screens from Ko...

FYI: The east coast (Chicago and East) Tuscany is a different window than the west coast versions. (Sloped sill, pocket or drop in frame in lieu of block frame). Tuscany (replacement) and Montecito (new construction) have replaced Classic Series virtually everywhere but sliding windows right now.

First of all....I have "no allegience" to either brand as well. So I'm not defending anyone. But should we all be so focused on U-factor as much as we are? After being in the window business for 10 or so years, I've learned to consider the delicate balance between thermal effeciency and st...

Vinyl Repair in Chicago

Fellas, A bit new to the Chicago market, and am looking for a specialty tradesman. I have a rather large job in the city, and the builder/tradesman have damaged a few sills to the point of necessary repair. Anyone know of vinyl "repair" guy around Chicagoland? The builder does not want to ...

Albeit, new technology, but Fiberglass won't rot, chip, or peal. It expands and contracts at the same rate as glass. Vinyl expands and contracts up to 14 times that of glass.

Plus, fiberglass looks much better.

Simonten warranty is NOT as good as Milgards, and that is a fact. Go to the websites and read what you can regarding that issue. As for the SunCoat MAX, don't expect any problems down the line with it. It is new technology from Cardinal, and is only available to Milgard and Andersen. The SHGC (solar...
