As someone who went through some window estimates lately, and going on the information you gave, I'd say you could probably find your windows for $100-200 cheaper per window. Long's prices are high for average vinyl windows and they tend toward high-pressure tactics. If they want to charge you $150 ...

I am no lawyer, but actually I don't think a home improvement contract is a home improvement contract until there is "consideration" -- ie-money to seal the deal. For my first set of windows I put 1/3 down, but I put it on a credit card, so I would have some recourse.

Those prices seem high to me for any window. The one thing is that I guess it depends what size and what sort of patio door you were looking at. I've seen a few of them recently and the price range was dramatic, and so too was quality and materials. I have a 9 foot slider and it seems it would be ve...

Re: Merlin

I think the Alside windows were the only ones I've seen (so far) that come with a lifetime warranty AND a lifetime glass breakage warranty. I also like the fact that these windows are made in the USA :-) by a company that's been in business for a long time. (And having said that, I am about to go wi...

Schuco Made In Usa?

I am starting a new thread about this. I didn't like the way the old thread was turning. I am under the distinct impression that Schuco uses frames that are made in Germany, NOT the USA. Can someone from Schuco confirm or deny this? I saw this on another thread somewhere. I wish I could find it. I t...

Actually I am under the distinct impression (apparently, after reading this thread, misinformed) that Schuco uses frames that are made in Germany, NOT the USA. Can someone from Schuco confirm or deny this? Is it true that Schuco parts are actually NEVER imported from Germany and always made here in ...

The reason I suggested Vytex is because they were the best bang for the buck window I've seen so far. I see WindowMan Pa is recommending a Schuco dealer. WindowMan, I guess you're a dealer for Schuco or you work for them right? So can you tell me if this is correct: isn't the typical price range for...

Look into the Vytex Georgetown windows. Those have been the most reasonably priced windows I've looked at. They're decent looking, not flimsy and seem to be tightly constructed with fusion welded sashes and frames.

My understanding is that it is a more expensive process to install new construction windows, and it is best done if you are in the process of residing your home (Can anyone shed some light on what would happen if you have a brick exterior--is it still just as easy to install new construction windows...

I think the Ultramaxx has been discussed here somewhere along the line. I was under the impression that the sheffeld was an updated Ultramaxx and would therefore be a better window from Alside. Also, I see there were some responses to my question about whether subcontractors from a factory are reall...

I didn't realize it was that long ago. I'll have to get the original text for that. I am left to wonder how they decided which window was better. Back then (5 years ago, after all) the playing field might have been quite different. I'd love to know more from the pros on their feelings of what _WOULD...

I think I recall that the Bryn Mawr II is Consumer Reports #2 rated window. (Can someone confirm this please?) That being the case, if you can get proof that they do a good job installing and have good references, it sounds like a good deal to me... (My disclaimer is that I am no authority on this w...

The windows I had installed in my home previously were installed by a subcontractor of the window dealer--sort of. They were installers who worked for the factory that manufactured the windows. The dealer told me that up front and explained that he sells so many of their windows that they mainly wor...

I would definitely like to know more about the Shefield window. I have seen that one, seems like a nice tight window. It has sort of a wide frame which I guess is okay for big windows, but might be inconvenient for some smaller windows. Never heard of the other one though.
