Re: Window replacement on LI

What type of window removal? Roof kits for the bay/bow? Before we even talk about options and other yet to be defined parameters that will make the job more expensive, I come up with a job that is easily North of 30K. So their number isn't outlandish by any measure. You won't save that much going fr...

Re: replacement casement window options?

+1.

The price metric is a good evaluation as part of a suite of tools, but I wouldn't make it centric to your focus. Uncle Eddie did point out that the Restoration is reserved for a well vetted dealer so you have some protection from the "cheapest price" trappings in this case.

Re: Swap out glass in new window

1. Guessing they were offering some discount on leaving them?
2. No issues. If done properly, it is a totally normal and allowable process.

I wouldn't be too worried about the neighborhood aesthetic. If it doesn't bother you, I would leave well enough alone.

Re: Okna window price quote to low?

Definitely the best product. If he said he screwed up the price, then it kind of validates that it was too low. If he is willing to honor it...I'd say go with it. Do him a solid and be sure to tip the guys out.

Re: Okna window price quote to low?

Well...the other two numbers are certainly more in line with the normal. Not sure what Window Depot this is or how they run their set up.

Have you checked the salesperson's math? Wouldn't be the first time one of the guys in the field got the math wrong.

Re: Pricing by zip code?

How about if one prospect is a better negotiator than the other? Like a widow that is doing remodeling things for the first time and doesn't know the first thing about prices? Charge her full boat but charge the guy that's a shrewd negotiator the lesser price to get the work? I think you are conflat...

Re: Pricing by zip code?

If by pricing by zip code you meant that folks in wealthier areas got higher prices vs. their more modest neighbors, not in an ethical sales model and run company. If you meant that certain areas have different costs of doing business...most certainly yes.

Depending on how cold the winters are...thermally broken aluminum might be problematic.

Better prepare for some heavy engineering and framing costs for that 17' opening.

I tend to agree with The Window Nerd.

Where is the home, climate zone wise?

Not sure something that looks correct with black/bronze windows will normally fit with white.

Window and door count? Treat a bank of windows by counting the individual mulled units (i.e. Double Hung - Picture - Double Hung = 3 windows).

Best bet...use a window vendor that actually knows and understands energy. Only guy I would recommend in Milwaukee is HomeSealed.

Where in Wisconsin. Too cheap is certainly a "Red Flag" that should raise your antennae.

Some window rot doesn't necessitate a new construction application in the vast majority of applications.

At the risk of being self promoting, we service that market. Are the current windows wood or other (i.e. vinyl, metal, etc.).
