Re: Concerned on this install - looking for advice/input
If water is aggregating in the pan such that is hit the junction with the framed wall and seeps in...you have an issue with the connection to the wall system or in the exterior cladding. When homes were built 100 years ago, they used layered felts and didn't have preformed pans, subsill, foam, and s...

Re: Concerned on this install - looking for advice/input
Again...not seeing it in an in person and finished format, can't say for certain.
Bigger questions are:
- How does it operate?
- How are the reveals and panel gaps?
- Finish trim work done?
If all those are good, don't see why it wouldn't get more than a passing grade.

Re: Concerned on this install - looking for advice/input
Over or behind the kickplate is a matter of aesthetic opinion if you ask me. Over is better, but less attractive. Going up the 2x4s is more easily accomplished with a pre-formed sill pan vs. coil. Not sure what is specified on the contract, but what is there would probably cut muster in the eyes of ...

Transition between the door and the hardwood would normally be covered by some shoe molding. Not sure anything there require removal and re-installation.

Pan will usually extent to the edge of the framed wall and will ideally have a turned up damn leg or a hem of some sort to keep the wind driven water from entering the home.

Re: Concerned on this install - looking for advice/input
Things can look a good bit unfinished before interior and exterior trim. Shims behind screws are idea, but the foam really does support the door and keep it from moving around a good bit.

What he said. The answer is...both really. Airtight is key...and glazing schedule.

Re: Incorrectly framed new window installation
If you are doing it, I would stick to the Schluter system of waterproofing. Most bulletproof and well engineered systems I have seen to be honest. Back to the framing, if there is a second floor above that window, it should be at LEAST a 2x6 header. Depending on floor joist direction, that would be ...

Re: Soundproofing Vinyl vs Fiberglass
Where is the home located and what is the construction of the current window? Anything you do in a dedicated STC class is NOT going to match up with the projection of your current window. Window material is far less impactful than is the glazing type and air infiltration rates. Have you considered i...

Re: What replacement parts do I need for these Milgard windows?
You can call them if you like, but you'd probably be better sourcing it 3rd party. Milgard didn't make that balance, just used it in the operation of their window. It's call a "Side-Load" balance spring. There should be a number or stamping on it that will indicate it's size and they can b...

Back to the window question, I think its really leaning heavily in the favor of the 500 series.

Re: Identifying brand of window
Yeah. Won't be able to track it down like that. Obviously not under warranty any longer. Was it just the glass?
Any other markings on the window? Any picture you can add of the window? That would help.
