Re: Sears no longer selling the Simonton?

I wouldn't have any idea regarding pricing. Why do you ask? Are you a dealer? If so, shouldn't you know the answer? If not, what difference does it make?

Re: Sears no longer selling the Simonton?

I think I heard they switched to Wincore. Makes little sense to me because I didn't think Wincore had the manufacturing capacity to supply them nationwide like Simonton does.

Re: Sunrise Restorations Vinyl vs Marvin Infinity Fiberglass ...

I agree Randy. One of the best selling tools I have is to take several window samples by different manufacturers with me when I visit a potential client. Almost everyone ends up going with the Sunrise. Not just because it's a really nice looking window but I think they really like the look of the Ma...

Re: Spray Foam vs Fiberglass insulation??

You are right, we aren't too far apart on this. I just hate to see someone focus too much on whether an installer uses foam or not. To me it's like arguing the difference between a .29 and a .28 U-factor. Anybody who thinks there is going to be a difference between using foam and fiberglass on a pro...

Re: Earthwise Vinyl Windows

Have you looked at any competitive windows? I would never recommend buying something just because your neighbor bought them. I don't drive the same car my neighbor drives.

Re: Sunrise Restorations Vinyl vs Marvin Infinity Fiberglass ...

If you are looking strictly at the energy efficiency differences between the Sunrise and the Marvin, the Sunrise wins hands down. Although it's difficult to pin down an Air leakage number from Marvin, I believe it to be in the .20's. The Sunrise is .03. Many people who purchase Marvin Windows are lo...

Re: Spray Foam vs Fiberglass insulation??

Yes, having foam is as critical as selecting a window. That huge 1/8 of an inch gap around the window must be filled with closed cell foam or your windows will leak air like crazy. It won't matter whether you got a top notch install and the installer carefully caulked the windows so no air will leak...

Re: Spray Foam vs Fiberglass insulation??

Hopefilly the "Foamers" are not causing you to overlook some very good installers. Whether an installer does or doesn't use foam should not be a major consideration.

Re: New Windows in Mississippi

Gorell is the better window. The question is it worth spending an additional $200 per window over the Viewpoint. I'd probably get at least 2 more estimates on different brands fron different dealers just to be sure you are getting the best value for your money.

Re: Simonton 9800 window quote

It sounds as if they mis-measured the windows. They may have ordered exact sizes instead of tip to tip. I'm not exactly sure what they are doing here but normally you could try and cut the wood frame back a little depending on how much too wide the windows are. I don't want to be judgemental because...

I'm not sure what you are referring to? Can you be a little more specific about what you mean by "lip"? Are you talking about the nailing fin?

Re: Excalibur vs Bainbrige vs Imperial LS quote help!

Definitely get the references and then call them. Might want to ask if they mind if you come by and examine the workmanship. You don't have to be an expert to observe whether the caulking looks professional and if the window has a professionally installed look. I would also check with the BBB and An...

Re: Excalibur vs Bainbrige vs Imperial LS quote help!

Unless a few of the contractors who looked at the job commented about the possibility of rotted wood, I wouldn't be too concerned. It may just be a scare tactic the Champion salesman is using to try and convince you the other contractors will pump up their price by using change orders. That's a pret...
